I received an email from these guys (iphonesimfree.com) a few days ago, claiming they’ve achieved a complete software-based solution to unlock the iPhone. At first glance I figured a hoax, wouldn’t you? Well, a few days after the fact, Engadget now has a review of their product, and boy was I wrong — it’s legit! Rightfully so, these guys are charging a [unknown] fee for their iPhone unlocking software. Individual per unit licenses will be available starting next week.
Furthermore, this method is said to be “restore/upgrade resistant.” Of course Apple could potentially disable the SIM unlock with future iPhone software updates, but who knows for certain…
Anyway, my apologies for doubting these guys. Amazing work, truly. Now as I continue sendin’ SMS and makin’ calls from my Turbo-SIM unlocked iPhone, the rest of you will have to wait a bit longer. Sorry, had to brag a bit. ;)

Wow! I hope some devs will be able to make sure that this will work with future iPhone updates etc. As soon as everything is certain and i have some cash I’ll get one :)
