iUnlock Reloaded — Improved iPhone Software Unlock!

Posted by greg

Update: Here we have the iPhone DEV Team’s GUI — copy to /Applications and run from the Springboard! Source code is next up for release. :)

Use iBrickr (Windows) or iNdependence (Mac) to get anySIM.app on your iPhone.

Download: anySIM.app — software GUI unlock

The iPhone DEV Team delivers on their promise — iPhone unlocking made simple, and actually, significantly faster. Lets assume you’re on iPhone software version 1.0.2 with iTunes 7.4.1, and the phone is already activated with functional WiFi; the steps:

  1. Windows — download this. Mac OS X — download this.
  2. disable Auto-Lock under Settings -> General -> Auto-Lock (set to “Never”)
  3. jailbreak the phone using whichever app — both are very straight forward.
  4. install SSH:
    • with iBrickr: browse to Applications, install the PXL, follow instructions. Select DropBear SSH afterwards.
    • with iNdependence: click the “SSH” tab, and click “Install SSH/SFTP/SCP”
  5. download the iUnlock Reloaded package; extract it and copy the 3 files to your iPhone — make sure all 3 end up in the same directory. Lets say /usr/bin for the sake of this [dirty] tutorial. I recommend using WinSCP for Windows and Fugu for Mac. iBrickr is also capable of uploading the required files. Just select the appropriate menu item.
  6. SSH to your iPhone — get the IP address under Settings -> Wi-Fi -> the blue arrow next to the connected network.
    • Windows — download putty and create a connection to that IP
    • Mac — Spotlight “Terminal” and double click the app. Type

      ssh root@IP_address

The default root password is ‘dottie’

  7. type
    cd /usr/bin && chmod +x iUnlock_reloaded
    iUnlock_reloaded

  8. wait 3 - 5 mins, and you’re done!

Ok, so maybe it’s not entirely user-friendly just yet, but there is reason behind that; the iPhone Dev Team states, “Sorry for the delay with the GUI version, we working hard on it but we suffer significant problems with the new updates to the toolchain. Some changes seem to have brought up some timing issues which need to be solved first before we can release the shinny application in the wild.”

Resort to our forums should you experience difficulty. We will try our best to help you.

If I run this software, do I still need to follow those 8 steps? or this software replaces all those 8 steps?

I take it we have no guarantees that a future apple firmware upgrade wont re-lock the iPhone?

i think there wont be a guarantee for anything.

How are you trying to upload it? I recommend using iBrickr (if you’re on Windows) to copy files to the phone. It needs to go under /Applications

i am using iBrickr. I have been trying to put the anySIM.app in my iphone, but when i go to it the is no XML application to put in there. do you think this might be because i extracted the contents? also my iphone is at firmware 1.0 and i don’t know if i need to update it.

I am a Windows users, so all I need to do is to install ibrikr, then install the anySIM, that’s it? Do I put any sim card in while doing the unlock process? Does the iTune has to be 7.4.x?

Comment by greg

Yep, that’s it. I unlocked with the AT&T SIM card in, then replaced with my Rogers card. I had to reactivate with iNdependence afterwards; using the Roger’s SIM. iBrickr 0.8 should work fine with iTunes 7.4.1

Connect your phone, follow the instructions on iBrickr to where you have the available menu options. Select upload file, browse to /Applications on the iPhone (in the Window to the right) and upload anySIM.app. Disconnect your phone, reboot, and it should appear.

Ok the thing with ibrinkr is, when you upload the files, you have to copy one by one. You cannot copy the whole entire anysim.app folder. Should the folder be zipped!

oaky, i know you are really tired of my questions, but i finally got the app on there and it ran. I was able to make calls, but when i switched it off and restarted it, it was locked again =( i tried to rerun the anySIM but it says “could not locate bites to patch” i tried to restore it like it says in the forums, but i am still getting the same thing.

oh yeah! my bad… I just use scp. So do this instead, follow the instructions when you click Applications. Install the PXL and when that’s done, installed Dropbear SSH. Download WinSCP (google it) and copy anySIM.app to your iPhone that way. Get your iPhone’s WiFi IP address under Settings -> WiFi.

No, can you explain which file of Dropbear SSH should I use and which folder. Do I have to run bbupdater if I ran the anySIM one time already.

follow the instructions using iBrickr when you select to install Applications. Once you have followed the instructions, select Dropbear SSH from the dialog window of listed applications in iBrickr. the iBrickr instructions are straight forward. just follow them carefully.

If you get the “couldn’t locate the bytes to patch” error and you activated with a different cingular/att sim, you need to do the following steps:

1. Upload the following to a directory (I used /unlock):
bbupdater
ICE03.14.08_G.eep
ICE03.14.08_G.fls

2. SSH to the iphone (I need to install openSSH using ibrickr 0.8 and used putty as my ssh client) and yes you need wi-fi working.

3. From SSH prompt type the following:
cd /unlock
chmod +x bbupdater
launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
./bbupdater -f *.fls -e *.eep
launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
4. Exit putty
5. Run anySIM from the springboard
6. Run PCACAY Activate.bat (if I didn’t do this itunes reported an invalid IMEI
7. Reboot phone
8. Optional: run iBrickr and remove openSSH and/or anySIM

(you should find these files urself, i just searched google)
