Update: Bug fixes apparently… It’s said to address the issue with creating ring tones from iTunes Plus songs. Word of advice: stick with 7.4.1.
Aaahhh! Just popped up on my Mac — an iTunes 7.4.2 update. Don’t upgrade, yet! Aaaahh!
Comments (3)Chris Reed has released “VNsea” — a VNC client / viewer native to the iPhone. It is based on Chicken of the VNC for Mac OS X. VNsea 0.2 was released today, and surprisingly — considering its version number — it works damn well. You’re likely to experience some odd behaviour, but that’s to be expected in its early state.
Pay close attention to the project’s home page for future updates. Or, better yet, app tap and refresh the Installer.
For the VNC server, I recommend using Vine for Mac or TightVNC for Windows / Linux. I just finished using Vine — it seems to be a suitable server. Remember to open the appropriate ports (tcp/udp: 5900-5902) on your firewall.
Wait, what’s VNC? In case you don’t know, VNC stands for “Virtual Network Computing” — it permits remote management of a computer running the VNC server. It relays keyboard and mouse events from the client (iPhone) to server (PC), and the server returns graphical screen updates. Get it? You can do this from your iPhone now!
One finger to control mouse navigation; two fingers to move the screen. My wish: horizontal orientation mode. :)

Comments (1)bitSplit has further improved iFuntastic, and most importantly, it works with iTunes 7.4.1 now. In fact, it requires 7.4.1 and the latest iPhone system software update, version 1.0.2. Don’t worry — it’s safe to upgrade both. Should a later version appear, remain calm and wait to hear word.
In addition to iTunes 7.4.1 support, iFuntastic has received a major overhaul — the GUI has been revamped and the internals reworked. It’s one of the easiest ways to customize your iPhone! To view a complete list of changes in 3.5.5, click “Latest Developments.” As depicted in the screen shot above.

Comments (1)Update: Here we have the iPhone DEV Team’s GUI — copy to /Applications and run from the Springboard! Source code is next up for release. :)
Use iBrickr (Windows) or iNdependence (Mac) to get anySIM.app on your iPhone.

The iPhone DEV Team delivers on their promise — iPhone unlocking made simple, and actually, significantly faster. Lets assume you’re on iPhone software version 1.0.2 with iTunes 7.4.1, and the phone is already activated with functional WiFi; the steps:
ssh root@IP_addressThe default root password is ‘dottie’
cd /usr/bin && chmod +x iUnlock_reloaded
iUnlock_reloadedOk, so maybe it’s not entirely user-friendly just yet, but there is reason behind that; the iPhone Dev Team states, “Sorry for the delay with the GUI version, we working hard on it but we suffer significant problems with the new updates to the toolchain. Some changes seem to have brought up some timing issues which need to be solved first before we can release the shinny application in the wild.”
Resort to our forums should you experience difficulty. We will try our best to help you.

Comments (36)Just a heads up… The geniuses over at the iPhone Dev Wiki have pulled their previous Unlock GUI and plan to release a [more] stable version, alongside a complete user-friendly guide. They strongly advise discontinuing use of the old one; it’s based on prerelease code — unforeseen issues may occur.
If you’re experiencing difficulties unlocking with the command line tool method — using the modem firmware (ICE03.14.08_G.fls) and NOR memory dump — be patient. As the 100% software unlock is further refined, it will be as simple as copying the .app to your iPhone and running it. Those steps will be detailed too. Stay tuned!
Tremendous props to everyone involved with achieving this iPhone unlock.
Comments (10)Update: It works! It really really works! Let me explain what I did…
chmod +x /bin/iUnlock# launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plistiUnlock /var/root/ICE03.14.08_G.fls /var/root/<nordump>AT S7=45 S0=0 L1 V1 X4 &c1 E1 Q0

AT+CLCK="PN",2The day of reckoning!
You will notice iPhone Dev Wiki’s “Unlock Phone” block has turned the most beautiful shade of green! I knew it would follow shortly after the release of iphoneSimFree’s software unlocking method.
Although, still not completely user-friendly, this iPhone unlocking binary must be ran from command line — this means you need a functioning SSH installation on your phone. Don’t worry — sooner, rather than later, someone will simplify things with a fancy GUI. In the meantime, if you have yourself a locked phone and the technical know-how, give it a whirl!
By the looks of it, you require a NOR memory dump & a FLS file in order to achieve the unlock. Check back shortly for more details… I’m playing with it now.

Pissed ya can’t find any open WiFi spots around? Perhaps they’re hidden… Care to learn more about the surrounding wireless networks? Now you can… Using Stumbler for the iPhone!

Conceivably, if someone discovers a method to put the iPhone WiFi interface into promiscuous mode, you could capture packets and crack your way onto a protected network. But that’s yet to come.

Comments (0)Become a true Jedi Master with your iPhone and the newly released iSaber. Available via Nullriver’s Installer is a fun homebrew app from the same developer who brought us MacSaber and WiiSaber. Carelessly swing your iPhone around while performing back flips and all sorts of Jedi-like maneuvers — woarown… kshhhhzzzt… woanrownrooo… kshhhaowow…
I’d host the iPhone compiled iSaber.app for download, but really it requires more work. Currently it’s a bit wonky and doesn’t respond to fast movement all too well. Nevertheless, an improved version shouldn’t be far off. Curious to try it anyway? Install AppTapp first, then grab it.

Comments (4)Now that you most likely have yourself a fully hacked/unlocked iPhone, this is what you need to install — Nullriver’s AppTapp GUI Installer. It’s the gateway to all iPhone homebrew and various other 3rd party goodies; you won’t be disappointed. Easily install SSH, countless games, apps, wallpapers, ringtones, iPhone compiled binaries, you name it — directly from the iPhone itself! The list continues to grow each and every day.
Download and run the package below which corresponds to your operating system. Once Installer is ready on the iPhone, install “Community Sources.” The package list will refresh & your jaw will drop hitting the touch screen; wipe away your slobber and begin tappin’ it like a cheap slutty escort — it’s iPhone apps / games galore in this maa!
I recommend using “Installer” over a WiFi spot, otherwise it’ll rack up a hefty EDGE Internet bill. Then sadly you’ll be left with little or no money for escorts. And trust me, they dig a dude with an iPhone.

Comments (6)At last! Now anyone can unlock their iPhone with ease — yes, that’s right — iphoneSimFree.com has FINALLY released their software to the public. Those interested can purchase SimFree via one of these online shops.
Once you have successfully installed the software on your iPhone, ensure WiFi is enabled and the Internet is accessible. SimFree “calls home” to their servers which validates your license & initiates the SIM unlock.
The reseller or his/her customer must install on the iPhone our software, available by mail or through direct download from our site. This is a standard .app file and once installed on the iphone it will show up as a springboard icon on the main screen.
The reseller must log into our back office and enter the required data specific to that iPhone (his license credit will be subtracted).
Once done, the reseller or the customer must run the .app, which will communicate via the iPhone WiFi to our server. If the iPhone has been registered, the software will proceed to unlock the iPhone.
Still hesitant? Perhaps after this app circulates the globe, a free [reverse engineered] version will follow.
