A number of hackers — metasploit, rezn, dinopio, drudge, kroo, pumpkin, davidc, dunham, and NerveGas — have created and launched jailbreakme.com. While the Safari exploit remains unpatched, we’ll remain with a one-step solution to fully unleash the iPhone in all its glory. This works on the iPod Touch also.

The only prerequisite is an activated phone with working Wi-Fi; I typically fake activation using iNdependence. This isn’t necessary for iPod Touch owners.

AppSnapp feature list:

1. Jailbreaks iPhone/iPod Touch on 1.1.1
2. Patches Springboard to load third party apps
3. Activates non-AT&T iPhones automatically, while leaving already activated phones alone

bitSplit returns with a new version of iFuntastic — the Mac OS X tool aimed towards simplifying the knitty gritty task of hacking & customizing an iPhone. Now save yourself time/trouble when it comes to jailbreaking v1.1.1, or even cropping and installing custom ringtones. You know how tedious that can be.

4.6.1 changes:

- customized ringtone support for 1.1.1 (unshackling not required)

new functions for Intel and PowerPC:

- Downgrade firmware 1.1.1 to firmware 1.0.2
- Upgrade firmware 1.0.2 to unshackled firmware 1.1.1

The process is tricky, but it only requires patience and a ridiculous number of (automated) restarts and switches to iTunes and back.

It hasn’t been easy watching the Mac get all the easy ways of doing things for us Windows users but luckily that is now over. iDemocracy’s latest release aims to be the one stop shop for PC users looking to use their v1.1.1 firmware iPhones. They have incorporated AppTapp & AnySIM into their program to make sure you can get your v1.1.1 iPhone fully unlocked and usable.

iDemocracy is the first mostly-automated jailbreak and third-party app installer for Apple’s iPhone 1.1.1

Currently it is only developed for the Windows platform (if you’re on a Mac, take a look at iNdependence. If you’re on Linux… well, sorry).

Update: I can personally confirm this 100% working. What I did…

1. Downgraded my bricked 1.1.1 to 1.0.2; following this guide. I used iNdependence to enter DFU mode.
2. Downgraded the iPhone’s baseband firmware to 03.14.08_G; using this guide.
3. Revirginized my phone — using what you see below.
4. Restored iPhone system software 1.0.2 again (because I kept getting errors with iTunes)
5. Used iNdependence again — activated, jailbroke, installed SSH, then prepared for the 1.1.1 update.
6. After successful update; faked activation with iNdependence, installed SSH, copied over anySIM-1.1 (the new root password for 1.1.1 is ‘alpine’), then SIM unlocked!

Booyah! I’m now sportin’ a 100% unlocked iPhone with software version 1.1.1. Thanks iPhone Dev Team!

FAQ:

Q. I got “bricked” when I upgraded to 1.1.1 after using anySIM/iUnlock on 1.0.2. Will this allow me to safely upgrade to 1.1.1 without further problems?

A. Yes.

Q. Will this reset the NCK counter?

A. Yes.

Q. Can I use this method to re-virginize my iUnlock/anySIM’d phone in either 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 firmwares?

A. Yes. However, this process involves reflashing the 3.14 baseband firmware so it is safer to downgrade to 1.0.2 OS firmware prior to proceeding.

Q. Can I use this tool if my phone was unlocked with IPSF?

A. No. Only IPSF can restore the baseband seczone to factory-default.

Q. I attempted to virginize using geohot’s server but it failed. Is it safe to use this method now?

A. Maybe. If the previous attempt to re-virginize accidentally wrote zeroes in the baseband seczone then this method will likely not work. However, if the failure was non-damaging then you are welcome to try and see if this works. Be sure to backup your seczone first!

The guide assumes you’ve already established ssh access to your phone. For added peace-of-mind it is advisable to install the vt100 terminal application or MobileTerminal prior to running through this process just in case anything fails and you lose wifi access.

It’s not an official iPhone Dev Team release, but it’s certainly something. Give the guide a thorough read; should you find your confidence level exceedingly high, why not give it a try. Otherwise, those less technical should wait for an application which consolidates 30 pages into a 1-step process.

Once your phone is a born again virgin, you may update to 1.1.1 and unlock!

First, let me talk about touchFree — it’s for Windows, and I feel bad for those left out. If you have an operational iPhone running 1.1.1 and a computer running Windows — this is for you. touchFree easily enables SSH and SFTP, installs AppTapp Installer, Trip1Pogostick, and an alpha version of SummerBoard. It works on both the iTouch and iPhone. Just download, execute, and viola!

Next up — iJailBreak, which essentially provides the same as mentioned above, but it’s for Mac users — Intel only and PPC architectures supported.

Prerequisites:

Both tools utilize the TIFF exploit; ensure you meet these requirements…

Even though 3rd party iPhone apps come dime-a-dozen now, Steve Jobs confirmed an iPhone SDK (software development kit) will be released by February. The same SDK will also permit developers to write software for the iPod Touch.

This made me laugh…

The iPhone Dev Team has released their free [software] unlocking solution for iPhone’s running 1.0.2 and 1.1.1. This particular version is intended for phones which have not been tampered with; meaning, if you have unlocked previously, DO NOT attempt an update thinking you’re able to re-unlock afterwards — it won’t work.

Only use anySIM 1.1 with an iPhone that has been shipped with 1.0.2 or 1.1.1, or updated from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1, but remains locked.

Please note that this version works only on VIRGIN 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 phones. We are working on a re-virginizer. DO NOT USE IF YOU HAVE ALREADY UNLOCKED WITH ANYSIM 1.0.

If you’re like me who used a previous version of anySIM, wait until the team has completed their re-virginizer; that will restore your iPhone’s cherry to a factory default state. Unless of course, you already know what you’re doing (see here, and here).
