Two New 1.1.1 Jailbreaking GUI’s (and more) — for Mac & Windows

Posted by greg

First, let me talk about touchFree — it’s for Windows, and I feel bad for those left out. If you have an operational iPhone running 1.1.1 and a computer running Windows — this is for you. touchFree easily enables SSH and SFTP, installs AppTapp Installer, Trip1Pogostick, and an alpha version of SummerBoard. It works on both the iTouch and iPhone. Just download, execute, and viola!

Next up — iJailBreak, which essentially provides the same as mentioned above, but it’s for Mac users — Intel only and PPC architectures supported.

Prerequisites:

Both tools utilize the TIFF exploit; ensure you meet these requirements…

  • .NET Framework 3.0 (touchFree only)
  • iPhone/iPod system software 1.1.1 installed; check under Settings -> General -> About
  • A copy of iTunes installed on your computer that is able to sync with your iPod/iPhone
  • A WiFi connection to perform the initial TIFF hack by visiting one link with Safari.

Download:
touchFree 0.6 (windows)
iJailBreak 0.3 (mac)

I am NOT interested in unlocking my iPhone as I already have AT&T and I do not wish to increase my chances of bricking my iPhone. However, I do want the installer.app so I can get the third-party applications installed on my phone. I have v.1.1.1 and I don’t want the hassle of downgrading. Unfortunately the newly released jailbraiking solution for 1.1.1 seems to force you to unlock your phone if you want to get the new summerboard app as well as a working installer.app. Has anyone gone through this step by step and been given the option to install installer.app WITHOUT unlocking their iPhone??

I may just have to wait for a surefire update of AppTapp for v.1.1.1 or even until February when Mr. Jobs releases the iPhone SDK. =[

are you sure? I’ve read countless reports with people confirming the same method works on the iPhone.

ok after I download the right zip file from the above source I successfully jailbreak and install the install.app

one note: on the Mac, you have to run iJailbreak as root otherwise it runs into some problem…

yes Greg, I’m sure…

what went wrong….well lets see, it didnt work for starters. but thats ok maybe i screwed up somewhere. what bothers me is not knowing if im on the right track at all or if i totally screwed up my iphone, but heres the result–

1- it wiped my Iphone so I had to do a restore.

2- I can no longer sync successfully to I-Tunes. I get an ‘unknown error (-1426)’ and a menu with two options to either restore my Iphone or sync it as a new user.

3- I seem to have lost the ability to boot into Safe Mode.

any ideas?

I used this batch version of jailbreak (windows) and it worked first try… after many tries with the standard Touch Free installer!

So wait, let’s see now. The link has been updated and it is safe to use? But it’s only for Intel Macs, am I correct?
