It’s official, it’s out — iPhone system software 1.1.2.
You know the standard drill — if your iPhone is hacked (3rd party apps, games, etc…) and/or unlocked, we recommend you not upgrade. At least until the talented iPhone Dev Team rip it apart & jailbreak that bitch. It is confirmed 1.1.2 patches the much abused TIFF exploit and re-locks the baseband.
Although, if you’re legit, you can grab the update package from us, iPhone Hacks. Currently it remains unavailable via iTunes automatic update. To perform the upgrade: put your iPhone into restore mode, fire up iTunes, hold SHIFT (Windows) or Option/ALT (Mac), click restore, and select the ipsw you downloaded below.

Running system software 1.1.1 and haven’t jailbroken or installed Installer.app yet? Then browse over to jailbreakme.com via Mobile Safari. Those genius iPhone/iTouch hackers have further refined their AppSnapp methods. Without doubt it’s the easiest jailbreaking technique to date.

Update: Ah! Those who upgraded to iTunes 7.5 may notice their custom ringtones have vanished. I was wondering what happened to mine and never pieced it together. After doing some research it would appear iTunes 7.5 wipes away any custom ringtones, that is once you re-establish a connection with the iPhone. Otherwise, everything else remains intact — or so it seems.
iTunes 7.5 is now available for download. It features a new method for activating the iPhone wherever service is offered.
iTunes 7.5 features the ability to activate iPhone wherever service is offered and support for Phase, a new interactive music game designed exclusively for iPod nano (third generation), iPod classic, and iPod (fifth generation). This release also includes bug fixes to improve stability and performance.
It’s safe to upgrade — even if your iPhone is hacked/unlocked.
Furthermore, QuickTime 7.3 is also available. It includes some iPhone-specific updates…
Over here are some details concerning the soon-to-be released iPhone system software update 1.1.2. UK iPhone’s will be launching with this version pre-installed, so those wishing to unlock, install 3rd party apps, etc… will need to sit tight. There’s no mention whether the baseband (modem) firmware is receiving a new version number or not.
First off, there’s support for dozens of languages, so if you happen to be a fluent Cantonese speaker, the phone has all the relevant character sets so you can display your language properly.
There’s full support for French and German, with special keyboard lay-outs on the ready to tackle accented characters – perfectly understandable, of course, what with the phone heading for launch across the channel this month too.
And then there’s access to The Cloud WiFi hotspots, which is already available to iPod Touch customers. This exclusive iPhone deal will let UK punters get onto the web, and use wi-fi to download tunes using the iTunes WiFi store, or just zip around the web at broadband pace, all for free!
Now for the obvious — the TIFF exploit — it’s patched. So the latest and simplest jailbreaking methods for 1.1.1 will be rendered obsolete. Of course when the new update propagates the iTunes globe, use the ol’ noggin — don’t update if your phone is unlocked and/or hacked in any way. Stay tuned!
iPhone developers who have just upgraded to Apple’s newest operating system — whether you’re just starting out, or you’ve been in the dev game for awhile — you will no doubt be pleased with drudge’s simple howto guide. It details the necessary steps to obtain and compile the latest toolchain for iPhone system software 1.1.1 on Mac OS X Leopard.
