iPhone SDK Key Leaked?

Posted by greg

Hey! Apparently the Apple iPhone SDK key has been leaked…

Read Erica Sadun’s report at TUAW, “…all iPhone applications must be properly signed for iTunes to process them and for the iPhone to load them, this key suggests that hackers are closer to creating compliant IPA application bundles for home-brew iTunes distribution.”

iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak Released

Posted by greg

Update: To fix EDGE preferences and others which aren’t properly saved, add “http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo” to Installer.app sources. BigBoss has both “1.1.3 Prefs Fix” and “1.1.3 Mailfix” available. There are some other goodies too. Thanks Leif.

Update: Bizarre behaviour encountered: EDGE settings do not save and you’re eventually returned to the home screen. There is no audible preview when selecting a different ringtone. And the real kicker so far — cannot receive incoming calls — only outgoing seem to work. Still testing…

A little background info: starting fresh, used iNdependence to enter DFU mode, restored to 1.1.1 with modem firmware 04.01.13_G (already SIM unlocked). Bypassed activation, jail broke, and installed Installer.app using the *#301# trick. Downloaded and used the 1.1.3 Mac jailbreak package. Perhaps re-virginizing would be better… *Shrug*

Update: The Mac version is now available. I’m happy to confirm it 99% (?) working from my jail broken 1.1.1 iPhone. Despite receiving “Main script execution failed” during the Installer.app phase — it worked! My iPhone froze immediately after the error; be patient, I waited ~ 5 minutes and it eventually rebooted with 1.1.3. Best of all — it remained SIM unlocked.

Download, mount the disk image (jb113.dmg), and run “Run_This.” Follow the instructions. Find the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” under the System category when asked to use Installer.app.

I had a feeling we wouldn’t be waiting until February. So lets get started…

In order to successfully jailbreak 1.1.3, you must first be running an already jail broken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 system version. The process is similar to the 1.1.2 jailbreak — prepare, patch, and soft-update. Currently the software is only available for Windows; Mac version coming soon.

Use the following at your own risk. We’re not responsible if you brick or render your iPhone/iPod Touch useless.

The steps:

  1. Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed.
  2. Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
  3. Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
  4. iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
  5. iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
  6. iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
  7. When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package. Do that.
  8. When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

Props to everyone involved with this jailbreak method — Nate True, the iPhone Dev & Elite Team, and all the others. More details following the source link.

iPhone System Software 1.1.3 Jailbroken — No Public Release Yet

Posted by greg

Achieved by none other than the iPhone Dev and Elite team — the 1.1.3 jailbreak. Their method is not and will not be available until Apple releases the iPhone SDK in February.

The video clip shows Installer.app running on an iPhone with system software 1.1.3. Therefore, jailbroken.

Posted by greg

Looks like iPhone hacker and hardware guru, Geohot, has done it again by unlocking an OTB 1.1.2 iPhone. It’s not the easiest procedure but you can bet that will follow sooner or later. The process entails downgrading the iPhone’s boot loader via hardware hack. Details and instructions available at the source link. Kudos!

If you don’t know what you’re doing, I recommend waiting for a complete software solution. Stay tuned.

Download: 1.1.2 OTB Unlock Packageincludes the required secpack, a new ieraser, iunlocker, and testcode.bb.

Count ‘em, that’s 3… psx4iphone, gpSPhone, and now OpenTTD. Transport Tycoon Deluxe on your iPhone / iPod Touch. ZodTTD says it, “Play OpenTTD.app, the first fully featured game… That even includes internet multiplayer!”.

Fans know what’s up, those who don’t… OpenTTD is an open source clone of Chris Sawyer’s Transport Tycoon Deluxe. It was published by MicroProse back in 94. Developers have taken this even now popular game to new lengths with a whole community backing the project. Check it out here.

Download PSX, GBA, NES Games Without a PC!

Posted by greg

No longer is your PC required for installing PSX, GBA, and NES images/roms on your iPhone. Using Nullriver’s Installer.app, simply add these 3 sources:

  • PSX: http://psxrepo.servegame.com
  • GBA: http://gbarepo.servegame.com
  • NES: http://markmon.mine.nu:90/iphone/repo/repo.plist

You’ll of course need the following emulators: psx4iphone, gpSPhone, and iPhone NES.app. Pretty self explanatory.

I’m not sure of the legality issues behind these repositories. With that said they could disappear at any time.

iPhone DOOM v0.1 Released

Posted by greg

Developer psychochromatic has picked up the iPhone DOOM project and is making great headway. Resuming where stepwhite left off, the iPhone/iPod Touch DOOM port is now a playable binary. Watch –

WAD files go in /var/root/Media/Doom. If the app quits immediately after launch, there was probably an issue with the wad file. If you’re using the shareware wad, make sure it’s named doom1.wad.

As always, stay up-to-date via the google code project page or using Installer.
