Downgrading iPhone 1.1.3 Woes

Posted by greg

It would seem Apple has set a new course of obstacles for iPhone hackers to maneuver around… According to Nate True, if your iPhone has never been unlocked and you attempt a downgrade from 1.1.3, you’ll end up with a brick. That is until you upgrade back to 1.1.3 again. Unlocked phones fail the 1.1.3 baseband upgrade completely; meaning it won’t work afterwards.

Nate True quotes…

If your iPhone has never been unlocked, downgrading from 1.1.3 will leave you bricked until you upgrade back to 1.1.3, as far as I can tell. The phone (even with an authentic AT&T SIM) reports an Incorrect SIM while iTunes says there’s no SIM at all, when you’ve downgraded back to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 (1.0.x untested).

If your phone was unlocked, the baseband upgrade fails on 1.1.3, so you will not have this problem but will not get 1.1.3 to work.

Obviously this may change once Apple releases the firmware officially but I do not count that as likely.

Has Apple taken the lead again: Hackers — 1, Apple — 2?

and lose product sales? trés naïve!

they are fools for signing on with a shitty US cell phone company preventing the world from investing in a product well desired.

Apple has not won the war! The hackers will beat this firmware just like 1.1.2. Apple doesn’t realize that they got great products, but choose not to implement what they are capable of and thus forces us to do what we have to do :/

Yeah Apple would be making more money off the phones if they weren’t locked or do these asshat moves on the upgrades, I think it won’t be long till 1.1.3 is hacked and totally unblocked as 1.1.2 is, but its still a pain in the ass to keep up with this

I agree completely.
I don’t have an iPhone, but I check up on these things once in a while.
I am a follower of the PSP scene, and… I think we know who is winning THAT contest.

I’m for a fair game. Don’t be pissed at apple for fighting back. I bet Mr. Jobs gets a kick at “the other sides” attempts. Gloves are off. Everybody go for the throat. Its fun… Anyway, if a hack worked perfectly, forever, it wouldn’t be quite as fun. Isn’t the thrill in the chase, moreso than the kill? I mean, the moment I unlock my iPhone, the next thing on my mind is how to get cracked apps that normally I’d have to pay for. I expect copy protection. Wheeeeeeee….

The reason Apple keeps from the hacks if first: Power. Why wouldnt steve jobs want power over all of those with his product. He wants to limit us from what we can actually do with this amazing product. Since he created it, I don’t care if I get my phone hacked or not. I believe Apple is slowly going to open the iPhone up to use it for its greater abilities. Don’t shun Apple. We wouldn’t be enjoying this amazing phone in the first place if it wasn’t for Apple. We would be stuck with the free phones you get when you sign up with verizon, at&t, cingular, etc… or that effing motorola Razor. PIECE OF SHIT!! thats what that phone is. The iPhone is amazing, just wait for Apple to open it up… which shouldn’t be long since they just released this new update, and I like it so far. Next month they should be releasing an update that allows 3rd party installations so we don’t have to even attempt to hack the iPhone. For all of you to know, I have an iPhone, had one since the day it came out, and I have had mine hacked before, and its a pain in the ass since its always lagging up my phone, so I got rid of the hacks. Just give them a break, thats all I ask. I know its easy to criticize them, but just don’t.

By the way, my macbook pro wasn’t working, or well just the internet, i emailed several emails that seemed to get to steve jobs, within 12 hours, I had a new computer up and running that Apple replaced for me. Has Microsoft done anything like that before? Doubt it.

A lot of people seem to think Apple are “assholes” for protecting their phones against illegitimate use, and I sure find it a bit annoying too. But the fact is that it’s not about being “assholes” or to stay in power, it’s about the fact that Apple doesn’t gain profit from sold phones, they gain profit from deals with the operators and the use of iPhones in their networks, that’s why a sold phone ending up elsewhere is a loss for Apple. That’s why.
