iPhone 1.1.3 Jailbreak Released

Posted by greg

Update: To fix EDGE preferences and others which aren’t properly saved, add “http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo” to Installer.app sources. BigBoss has both “1.1.3 Prefs Fix” and “1.1.3 Mailfix” available. There are some other goodies too. Thanks Leif.

Update: Bizarre behaviour encountered: EDGE settings do not save and you’re eventually returned to the home screen. There is no audible preview when selecting a different ringtone. And the real kicker so far — cannot receive incoming calls — only outgoing seem to work. Still testing…

A little background info: starting fresh, used iNdependence to enter DFU mode, restored to 1.1.1 with modem firmware 04.01.13_G (already SIM unlocked). Bypassed activation, jail broke, and installed Installer.app using the *#301# trick. Downloaded and used the 1.1.3 Mac jailbreak package. Perhaps re-virginizing would be better… *Shrug*

Update: The Mac version is now available. I’m happy to confirm it 99% (?) working from my jail broken 1.1.1 iPhone. Despite receiving “Main script execution failed” during the Installer.app phase — it worked! My iPhone froze immediately after the error; be patient, I waited ~ 5 minutes and it eventually rebooted with 1.1.3. Best of all — it remained SIM unlocked.

Download, mount the disk image (jb113.dmg), and run “Run_This.” Follow the instructions. Find the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” under the System category when asked to use Installer.app.

I had a feeling we wouldn’t be waiting until February. So lets get started…

In order to successfully jailbreak 1.1.3, you must first be running an already jail broken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 system version. The process is similar to the 1.1.2 jailbreak — prepare, patch, and soft-update. Currently the software is only available for Windows; Mac version coming soon.

Use the following at your own risk. We’re not responsible if you brick or render your iPhone/iPod Touch useless.

The steps:

  1. Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed.
  2. Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
  3. Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
  4. iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
  5. iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
  6. iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
  7. When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package. Do that.
  8. When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

Props to everyone involved with this jailbreak method — Nate True, the iPhone Dev & Elite Team, and all the others. More details following the source link.

This is great news…I’m going to wait for a while to see if this will in fact keep sim unlocked iphones…well…unlocked with this update. I hear that is does…but it’s still very early. Also, I hear the feature that locates you on the map doesn’t work very well with this update method…great job to all involved nonetheless….

excellent… updated my 1.1.2 jailbreak to 1.1.3 on accident and lost all… downgraded from 1.1.3 to 1.1.2 then to 1.1.1 and did steps via jailbreak 1.1.2 even had to use unactivated steps since downgrades made sim unreadable, but once steps to install installerapp were done everything went smooth… TY!

Hi, mind if I asked how you downgraded a 1.1.3 back to your original jailbreak 1.1.2. I also accidentally upgrading my firmware to 1.1.3 and realized how lame it was, but now I cant seem to find any info on how to downgrade…especially since 1.1.2 uses the more recent bootloader.

Thanks for any help, really appreciate it.

I have/had a jailbroken 1.1.1 iPhone. I followed the steps from iBrickr.

Unfortunately, after installing 1.1.3 from Installer my iPhone showed iTunes and USB plug icons on its screen. My iTunes said that the phone was in Recovery mode and needed to be Restored.

Now my phone is rebooting over and over and over with the icons screen between reboots.

Any ideas on what I need to do now?

I jailbroke without any real problems :P outgoing/incoming call both work, the only thing that isnt working 100% is the locate option on maps but i read that it works if you load “locateMe.app” first… just a note, i think it is a good idea you try to uninstall as much as you can before jailbreaking.

Now that this jailbreak is out, will it affect Apple’s release of their SDK later in February? This would potentially prevent currently installed 1.1.3 users to jailbreak their phone.

My iPhone also is unable to Play any songs in the iPod section. The phone also will not play a normal ring sound when a call is coming in.

At first I was able to listen to previews of songs in the iTunes section. I bought a couple songs using wi-fi.

The vibrate function works fine when a call comes in. There are sounds when you hit numbers on the keypad in the Phone sections and it plays other sounds as well. Just not music or factory-installed ring sounds.

Any ideas?

this so wierd
first i had a jailbroken 1.1.2 OTB with turbosim. i deleted every app and softupgraded to 1.1.3 jailbreak and everything worked fine except the google locateme feature. i went and installed the hackthatphone source and installed the fix disk space app. when i went to my home screen i saw every app i deleted while i was on the jailbroken 1.1.2. i went to installer and checked if i had them under uninstall cut i dont. and now my google maps opens but it closes by itself. i tried restarting my iphone but my google maps is still not working. does anybody know why?

2008-01-26 01:27:11

Okay, I had an unlocked OTB 1.1.2. Accidently upgraded to 1.1.3. Then I recovered to 1.1.1 and then did the Oktoprep and upgraded back to 1.1.2, but with 1.1.3’s baseband. So the phone basically became an ipod touch. Then this program came out and I updated to 1.1.3. NO problems what so ever, **BUT** everything works except for the phone option. Luckily I got a 2nd iPHONE to test out, and did the ibrickr to 1.1.3 and the phone works fine. SOOOO, if you got 1.1.2 OTB and accidently upgraded to 1.1.3. You’re pretty much S.O.L. right now. If anyone has any suggestions or help that could get the other iphone to work… don’t hesitate to lend me your knowledge :)

What do you mean, an unlocked OTB 1.1.2? You mean jailbroken, right?

To get that phone to work, just use iTunes to restore to 1.1.3. To jailbreak it, wait till the full jailbreak for 1.1.3 is released in February.

Comment by eric p
2008-01-27 15:20:11

OKAY.. yeah 1.1.2 with bootload 4.6 activated and jailbroken. updated to 1.1.3 via itunes and then it installed a new baseband. Downgraded and nothing. BUT I have fix the problem. Here it goes:
1) Put the phone in DFU mode.

2) Restore the firmware to 1.1.1

3) Use the *#308# method to install installapp

4) RUn the install

5) Install BSD system and term-vt100

6) added sources: http://hackthatphone.com/1.xml and http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo **Then** refresh sources

7) Go back to install and look in the “Hack that Phone tools” and install “Repair baseband”

8) Then go to install and look in “Unlock that iPhone” and install “1.1.3 –> 1.0.2 Downgrade

9) Exit install and RUN “term-vt100″

10) in term-vt100 type: cd /usr/bin and then type restorebb

11) it should take like 3-5 minutes. verify your baseband has been downgraded. check in settings –> about. you should see Modem Firmware: 03.14.08_G

12) IF it is, you’re in good shape. THEN run term-vt100 again.

13) in term-vt100 type: cd /usr/bin and then type virginize

14) wait 3-5 minutes again and when its done put the phone back into DFU and “restore” to 1.1.1

15) use the *#307# again to install installapp to jailbreak and activate. YOU can leave it here at 1.1.1 or if you wish to upgrade to 1.1.2, just remember to OKTOPREP it first.

I did this twice and it worked like a charm for me. Hope this was helpful to anyone who jumped the gun and install 1.1.3 and wanted to revert back to get their “phone” to function normal again.
