Yesterday Rogers Communications Inc. confirmed the iPhone will indeed be coming to Canada; and of course, they’ll be the official carrier.
While it had been widely expected that the high-tech, touch-screen phone would become available on the Rogers network, Tuesday’s announcement was the first official confirmation. However, executives declined to say exactly when the device would become available.
No set date and also no mention of whether or not Rogers will launch with the current model or wait for the 3G-enabled version, which is expected for release around July.
In the meantime, if you’re from Canada and can’t wait any longer, I’ll have you know a fully unlocked iPhone works flawlessly on the Rogers network — with exception of visual voicemail. Find an iPhone near you using Craigslist or eBay, and all the hacks are right here at iPhone Hacks.

Comments (13)WARNING THIS IS ONLY FOR BETA TESTERS AND COULD CAUSE YOU TO RESTORE YOUR IPHONE/ITOUCH LOSING DATA
Excited about the recently released Pwnage Tool? But don’t have a mac to Pwn your iPhone on? Well, say hello to WinPwn! You’ll be able to fully pwn your iPhone on your Windows PC. Although, a few features have been disabled until the final version has been released or till the dev feels it’s stable enough for the public. Here is what the dev has to say:
This is winpwn-0.99.1.8BETA. I have disabled 2.0+ support since it’s still buggy. Hopefully with people beta testing i will get all the bugs worked out within a few days and you will get a final release including 2.0+ support. You WILL be able to flash custom ipsw’s made with mac pwnage if you wish to upgrade to 2.0 and can’t wait for final winpwn. For now i have also disabled most of the custom options including the applications (installer is still there) and the unlock base band features. Once i’m happy it’s stable i will enable those features for testing. I will post a more detailed breakdown of how it works (YES THAT IS QEMU) and why i choose to use qemu. You will require the iTunesMobileDevice.dll and you will have to put it inside the winpwn program files dir.
iBooter support has been disabled since i haven’t tested it yet. So you are stuck with iTunes for beta release. NOTE: YOU MAY NEED TO USE REGULAR RECOVERY MODE MANUALLY IF WINPWN DOESN’T DO IT ITSELF.
REMINDER YOUR IPHONE/IPOD MUST BE ON 1.1.4 TO USE WINPWN AND YOU MUST LOAD 1.1.4 TO PWN OR TO BUILD A CUSTOM IPSW
Enjoy!

Countless iPhone apps are released every day; some are useless, some suck, and some kick a supreme amount of ass. Onboard the ass kicking boat is HWPen — the first iPhone handwriting application.
HWPen hooks into the on-screen keyboard, and, well, you guessed it — recognizes your handwriting. It’s currently in the beta stages of development, but no doubt demonstrates true dopeness.
To install:
As always, props to Leif for the find.
Comments (5)This app is fringing awesome, for real… I just finished testing’er out and she works quite well; no doubt a must-have for your iPhone. My Icelandic explorer buddy, Leif Erikson, will say the same.
What is it?
fring™ is a mobile internet service & community that enables you to access & interact with your social networks on-the-go, make free calls and live chat with all your fring, Skype®, MSN® Messenger, Google Talk™, ICQ, SIP, Twitter, Yahoo!™ and AIM®* friends using your handset’s internet connection rather than costly cellular airtime minutes.
Bringing PC-benefits to the mobile, fring will empower you with mobility and availability as never before, integrating all contacts in to one, searchable buddy list, allowing you to see who’s online before dialing with contact availability indicators, engage in multiple conversations simultaneously, send & receive files and more.
Couldn’t have said it better myself…

Comments (0)Leif just sent another interesting news tidbit…
Dubbed BD Touch, the technology aims to leverages the network capabilities of Blu-ray players, meaning that iPhones and iPod touches could soon add to their repertoire the ability to dual as a multimedia remote for supporting Blu-ray players like the PS3.
…
In addition, BD Touch could also serve to funnel movie extras from the PS3 to the iPhone, build an iPhone-based database of a user’s movie collection, and beam iTunes Digital Copy versions of movies from Blu-ray discs to the Apple handhelds.
…
A formal announcement is expected on Thursday.
Cool!

Comments (5)Hot off the presses — Simplify Media Build 949. Several worthwhile updates have made their way into this version; so check it out…
Simplify Media enables access to your music library, and if you have any friends, theirs too — up to 30 of ‘em — wherever Wi-Fi is available.
What’s new?
Album art - this version uses Amazon Web Services to search for a match. In the future we will display the cover art already associated with the file for increased accuracy and rely on Amazon as a fallback.
Artist bios - from last.fm. These user-created bios are distributed under the GNU free document license.
Lyrics - courtesy of lyrics wiki and also user-generated and distributed under the GNU free document license.
Shuffle - select Shuffle from the top of any song list, and the tracks from an album, a genre, an artist or a playlist will be randomized for your enjoyment. It even works with the All Songs list.
Download the Simplify Media iPhone client via Nullriver’s Installer. And grab the server — for Windows or Mac — by following the source link.
