All iPhoners and iPhonerettes, if you’re serious about portable gaming, or maybe those khakis have insufficient pocket space for both your iPhone and PSP, then you must check this out — for real.

You and I both know emulators and games [on the iPhone] just ain’t the same without any actual controls. And that touch-screen business is nonsense from a gamer’s perspective. So, the remedy — iControlPad.

iControlPad fits nicely over the iPhone connecting via the serial port. It looks & feels similar to the PSP, but is said to be slightly smaller. Already iControlPad works with ZodTTD and the PSX / GBA emulators. No doubt more will follow suit.

And yes, an iTouch version is coming too. As well, full source code and SDK support will be provided.

Follow the source link for ongoing development and project updates.

This is a pretty cool app designed for people who have a bunch of Installer sources and hate having to wait for the sources to refresh every time the Installer is opened. You can choose from different intervals ranging from 1 hour to 24 hours. You can choose to set the last refresh date for today or yesterday. It’s your choice.

To Install:

  1. Fire up the Installer.app
  2. Make sure you have the Community Sources installed
  3. Scroll down to the Utilities category
  4. Install Instafresh

These apps deserve some attention…

Schmap — a straight up, pimped out, web app for anyone, anywhere. Browse over to www.schmap.com on your iPhone, or iPod Touch, and access city guides with mapped out points of interest, reviews, photos, you name it… It packs a pretty slick user interface too.

IntelliScreen — spice up your “Slide to Unlock” screen with various widgets… Rather than me go on and on, have a glance over the feature list:

  • View Calendar, Email, Text Messages, News, Sports, and Weather from your iPhone “Slide To Unlock” screen
  • Smooth scrolling across each item to quickly glimpse at your data
  • Auto-Checks Email when you view the unlock screen - no need to “Refresh” from Mail.app or wait 15 minutes
  • Go directly to the application of your choice with a “Swipe”
  • Precise International Weather (by zip) provided by Weather Underground.com
  • News Feeds include Yahoo!, CNN, Fox News, and Reuters (more coming soon!)
  • ESPN Sports Feeds include MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL, NCAA Men’s Football and NCAA Women’s Basketball
  • Customizing your IntelliScreen is easy! Choose which content you want to view and where
  • Mail and Text Messages can be shown only if new items are available

IntelliScreen is beta software. Use at your own risk.

Install:

  1. Add http://intelliborn.com/repo to Installer.app sources
  2. Choose the Intelliborn category; install IntelliScreen

iSlsk — a Soulseek (P2P file sharing) client for the iPhone. Need I say more? Watch the video:

iSlsk is available via the Installer.app community sources.
