I’m only posting this latest rumour because there is a little speculative evidence to back it up. While officially the 3G iPhone is supposed to be just like it’s predecessor in regards to Adobe Flash Player support, this strange little tidbid was noticed during Steve Jobs’ latest speech:

Steve Jobs had conducted a speed test between the new iPhone (over 3G) and the current iPhone (over EDGE) to show us that the 3G iPhone loads websites 2.8 times faster than the current iPhone.
Steve Jobs had used NationalGeographic.com website for the test.
On current iPhones running OS 1.1.4, and in the iPhone Simulator included with the iPhone’s SDK, nationalgeographic.com website renders with a picture of a cheetah and the message “This presentation requires Flash. Download free Flash player.” (as seen in the screenshot above).
yeah, what’s that about? it looks to me like iPhone 3G will support Flash.
How so? This makes absolutely no sense.
“…the message ‘This presentation requires Flash. Download free Flash player.’ (as seen in the screenshot above).”
We already know that the iPhone doesn’t support Flash. If the iPhone 3G supported it then you wouldn’t be getting that message.
They should have gotten a screenshot of the page on the iPhone and another of the same page on the iPhone 3G to compare. If it says the same thing on both screenshots then both don’t support Flash.
Even if the page says “Download free Flash player” it doesn’t mean that you can download a Flash player for the iPhone. All sites indicate that same message on any browser if you do not have Flash installed.
Like I said, this makes absolutely no sense at all.
I’m with the above…what kinda gay rumor is this ,..holy fucking crap this is like some noob shit
Sorry if you view this on any other iphone it doesn’t give you that same link to download the flash player.
I just tried this out on my iPhone now and iget the exact same screenshot. Obviously this rumour is a load of crap!
this is very unclear, care to clear it up alias420?
I have never seen a post so misunderstood.
During the WWDC 2008 presentation steve jobs loaded a page with the iphone 3G and it did NOT show that flash download message. The screenshot above is from the EXISTING iphone!!
lol thats weird.. someone deleted my post >.<
but yeah, you just posted up the wrong pic, thanx for fixing the end of the quote, but this tells nothing about the rumor..
hey ppl this rumor is justified on the part of (Alias420). Take a look at the above screenshot (more specifically at the cheetah) see the message??? [its the same thing i saw when i went to nationalgeographic.com] Now watch the keynote (iphone 3G) more specifically at the comparison of Edge to 3G and look at the cheetah there is no sign of the message that reads (Download free flash Player)…. Good looking out Aliais420… So there is a huge posibility… Lets keep our fingers crossed!!!!!!
If you watch the keynote speech carefully you will notice that neither of the iphone examples(3G or older iphone) will show that flash message, so I really don’t think that flash will be coming out with this release. Sorry.
yo ya are just missing the point…. If you look at the keynote…. The link (download free flash)is not existant during the comparison…. Which means that they have some some sort of flash is installed on thoses iphone… Come on ppl its comon sense… Put the whole iphone thing aside for a second and look at the way how PCs and mac are if u have DONT have flash installed, and u were to visit a flash embed page i kid u not that some sort message would pop up telling u that you need flash to view this content Download free flash player…. On the flipside if u have flash installed not pops up and everything goes fine and you are able to view the web page and that is the case that this rumor is trying to adress so it in theory be some sort of implimentation of flash on the iphone…. Flash might be comming…
Even if the 3g iphone has flash, its software based and since the 3g comes with firmware 2.0,wouldn’t it make since the current iphone will support it when 2.0 gets released??
Yess thoses iphone that were displayed in the keynote had the new 2.0 firmware… So if this rumor is a 100% true in terms of the 2.0 firmware containig some sort of flash then yess our current iphones will be able to view flash embeded content….when we upgrade to the new firmware..
Of course, in my case, i can’t upgrade my firmware until it’s proved to be working on jailbreak :)
The Flash Download page suggests installing Flash for OS X on current iPhone / in current iPhone simulator. Perhaps they only changed the browser identification string in software 1.2/2.0 and as a result Adobe might no longer suggest downloading the flash player for the wrong platform.
