The guys over at iUnlocked.org have put together this step-by-step guide on how to upgrade a 1.1.4 or previous 1st generation EDGE iPhone NOT 3G to the iPhone 2.0 firmware on Windows using WinPwn. I’ve updated the links in this guide from the original so no torrent searching will be necessary to acquire everything you need.

Step 1: Use WinPWN 1.0 To PWN Your 1.1.4 iPhone. If you need WinPWN Get it here: WinPwn v1.0.0.3 RC1 Download

WinPWN will ask for an IPSW you should use the 1.1.4 IPSW. Here is the link: iPhone Firmware v1.1.4 Download
Step 2: Install BootNeuter (Available via the classic Installer listed as 1.0)

Step 3: Run BootNeuter and have it Neuter your iphone. The selections you want are: 3.9 Bootloader, Neuter On, FakeBlank Off, Unlock On.

Step 4: Make sure your iTunes version is at 7.7

Step 5: Grab a pre-created IPSW Made with PWNAGE 2.0 Mac. You can grab one here: iPhone v2.0 Firmware Custom Download

Step 6: Grab iLiberty here: iLiberty 1.3 Windows Download

Step 7: Run iLiberty & Jump your iPhone into NORMAL Recovery mode — This is the most straightforward way to get it into the proper restore mode

Step 8: In iTunes Shift+Click the Restore button and find your custom IPSW Firmware file.

Step 9: The restore occurs (You should see a crazy pineapple while its running on your iphone). Then you should see bootneuter automatically come up (this is pwnage unlocking, activating and jail breaking your iphone).

Step 10:Enjoy 2.0 with AppStore & Cydia

NOTE: DFU Mode did NOT work for me and a lot of other people so to be safe stick with normal restore mode.

Good stuff…ipodtouched.net beat them to the punch already though. I just installed my 2.0 custom firmware through their tutorial. Let me tell you this much. I’m listening to The Tom Lykus Show on aol radio right now…Great to see this up, too. Keep it coming guys…

Thanks for this tutorial, there are even easier ways to doing this (avoiding downloading pwnage and some of the other directions) :P , but to tell you the truth… 2.0, while being on t-mobile, is 100% not worth it.

I actually downgraded back to 1.1.4 because it was slow, and i couldn’t even customize or use summerboard/bossprefs/poof etc.etc.

MY POINT OF VIEW… Installer is great, and no matter who sais “cydia is much more powerful bla bla” that is their opinion…you don’t have to use cydia unless you are required…and ATM that is your only option on 2.0… I hate it

Im already using 2.0 and although i am on at&t i would still love my phone jailbroken and to have cydia but these guides just show you how to do it from 1.1.4, what if you are already on 2.0?

Then I’m sure you can just do a Restore with the Custom IPSW.

How did i downgrade asks chris…

Download a program called ziphone patched by kiremk. It allows you to ierase and downgrade any bootloader version.

So if you pwned your phone, your phone can STILL be downgraded…all you need to do is download the original 1.1.4 file from apple and try restoring using that. And after that, use the program to downgrade the bootloader version, and to ierase it (virginize). After this is done, you will be left with 1.1.4, as well as its firmware version.

You Jailbreak your iPhone so you can get the Installer.app on the Screen – Click it, once you’re in the Menu, search for BootNeuter. Once you’ve installed it, do this:

Run BootNeuter and have it Neuter your iPhone. The selections you want are: 3.9 Bootloader, Neuter On, FakeBlank Off, Unlock On.

That’ll get you on your way to unlocking and jailbreaking your iPhone. Hope it helps :)

For the rest, just read the guide – It’s pretty simple to follow!

Well, I think since 2.0, the Installer.app has become obsolete as you can get most of the apps from the Apps Store now. And you don’t have to reset everytime :)

hi,

i have a doubt. Since every walk through of doing this in windows is asking for pwning for a 1.1.4 IPSW, my question is, do we have to load this 1.1.4 IPSW after neutering the bootloader on the iphone, and the flash the new 2.0 custom firmware?

Secondly: can anyone point me to a pwned IPSW which has the default bootloader and DFU images other than the pineapple and the steve jobs images?

if anyone can help me out. pls reply to a.rishwan@gmail.com
>> if someone can help me out on this I will carry it out on my Iphone and let you all know how it went through!

Hey,

I’m ready to update to 2.0, but have one question. I’m running a unlocked/jail broken iphone on the 1.1.2 firmware. Do I have to upgrade to 1.1.4 first, or can I just start pwning?
