It looks a Japanese iPhone hacker got tired of using the iPhone’s sometimes troublesome touchscreen keyboard. They created their own external keyboard addon using some Ruby code and what appears to be a Palm / Visor external keyboard connected via a customized cable. Check out the video below:

Great! that was needed. now you can at least use the shell in a nice way.
Figures this would come out at the same time my friend and I started working on getting the palm folding keyboard working throughout the whole O/S. Hopefully this just works in console so we have something to do besides wire connections and load up the software.
i am veeeeeeeerry disapointed….. this site was thebest and now they havent had a breakthrough in firmware hacking since september 20th what are the iphone hackers doing!!!!
Why dont you help them out then? instead of complaining.
cool !this rocks
I dont get annoyed by the touch screen keyboard enough to go through the trouble of making an external keyboard. Honestly i still type faster on the touch screen than any external full qwerty keyboard phone ive had so far.
FAKE.
1. how can external keyboard interface with iphone programs without custom kernel extensions/program developed for iphone?
2. hardware interfacing over bluetooth isn’t supported other than earpiece at the time
3. how do we know whether he’s using windows mobile device connected to his PC controlling his iphone?
4. what hardware was that custom wire on the iphone connected to?
debunk/answer-with-proof just one of these 4 points and you get my praise
5. why is the screen on your windows mobile covered?
1. It’s a serial connected keyboard being echoed within a program.
2. It’s serial, note the cable, its not wireless.
3. Uhhh…. what?
4. That would be a serial keyboard, sir.
Seriously, don’t be an ass just for the sake of being an ass.
It’s just a serial keyboard with a bit of code to interpret keypresses. Not very hard to do, he’s not even having it do anything, it just prints to the screen within his own program.
If he got it running globally, then that would be something that you could question, but this is simple as hell.
where can I buy it and how do I access my iPhone unix console? emacs for iPhone anyone?
