Update: PwnageTool has been updated to 2.2.1 — This update fixes the bug that is related to ‘Simple Mode’.
PwnageTool 2.2.1 Download (Mac OS X only)
iPhone DEV Team have just released PwnageTool 2.2 (Mac OS X only) and Quickpwn 2.2 (both Windows and Mac OS X). You can now jailbreak and unlock your iPhone 1st Generation (EDGE) and jailbreak your iPhone 3G, you can also jailbreak your 1st Generation iPod Touch.
From iPhone Dev Team’s Blog:
- Locked iPhone 3G
If you are using your iPhone with one carrier and have no interest in the possibility of an iPhone 3G unlock in the near future then just restore or upgrade to 2.2 using iTunes and use QuickPwn to Jailbreak and add Cydia and Installer.
- Locked iPhone 2G (1st Generation)
Restore your iPhone 2G with iTunes then run QuickPwn to do the magic, ‘nuff said.
- iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)
Update to 2.2 with iTunes and run QuickPwn.
- iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)
Sorry, no support at this time.
You can download PwnageTool and Quickpwn from our iPhone Downloads section.

no support for second gen. ipod touch? *walks away crying*
So now that 2.2 has been jailbroken will turbosim work again?
Hi there,
Greetings from Melbourne, Australia.
I have a 1st Gen (EDGE) iPhone still on 1.1.1 – unlocked when I got it using the method posted on http://iphone.unlock.no/.
I have a Mac and am keen to upgrade to 2.2.
Can anyone please advise whether i can just download and use QuickPwn 2.2, or do I need to get the phone to 1.1.4 first? Feel free to point me in the direction of another post/forum if this isn’t the place to ask.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who is able to help.
Cheers,
pete
Just finished jailbreaking my 3g iPhone.
Results are: It worked perfectly.
@ pete: Just update to 2.2, then run quickpwn, it will give you directions.
Hey Natalic,
Thanks heaps for the response.
Do you mean I should plug the phone into the Mac and then update via iTunes to 2.2? I’ve always been worried that that would brick the phone. I still have kept version 7 of iTunes on the Mac btw… in case it is required to do the upgrade (i read something to that effect somewhere).
Cheers,
pete
Hi Pete,
Were you able to successfully upgrade your 1st gen iPhone from Version 1 to Version 2.2?
I am having the same problem. I want apps so bad! What did you do and could I do the same thing if I have the lastest update for iTunes?
Please help. Thanks so much! Greatly appreciated!
Has anyone notice that Cydia’s search feature’s bugged up with this new update using quickpwn? Whenever I type any letter or words, the list always comes up starting with A and never the letter that I search for. The alphabet menu on the right side of the Cydia Search is also buggy as well. I’m hoping that it’s not just me.
I have a 2G iPhone with OS 2.0.1, unlocked to allow me use another SIM Card.
If I update the phone with iTunes to 2.2 it WILL BRICK my iPhone as far as I know.
How can I do that and then run QuickPWN?
I don’t get it!
Pleae illuminate my path.
try jailbreaking your iphone 2g with quickpwn 2.1 to have an access to the home screen even without simcard then restore using itunes. it also automatically updates you to the newers version 2.2 . then use quickpwn 2.2. that will do the trick.
Works great for me…
cydia well bugged now needs an update closes when it wants most things you install dont install
nicee :D
Is there any sources i can add to installer that will work for 2.2
Works perfect, iphone 1st 2.1pwn, update to 2.2 with 8.02 itunes, next use quickpwn 2.2. (test on vista and xp). Later mobileainstallation 2.1 and app works perfect too.
Thanks.
Well, I Jailbroke fine to 2.2, but my email sync with exchange keeps breaking and does not work. I wipe and tried to do this twice and my email sync keeps breaking…at this moment, I am going back to normal 2.2 firmware until this has been resolved…
My 2G iPhone is currently running firmware 1.1.4. The last time I tried a 2.0 firmware I had a problem where my phone kept switching off, and the only way to turn it on was through a hard reset (home button and power button held down together)
I had this problem with firmwares 2.0, 2.01, 2.02, and 2.1.
This was a problem that many people had with their 2G iPhones. Since downgrading back to 1.1.4 the problem has gone away. Before I attempt to update to 2.2, I’d like to know if anybody else has had this problem and if so, is it fixed in this firmware 2.2?
Many Thanks in advance.
Yes I am having this problem with 2.2 now. Seems like no one has any solution for this.
Any particular Itune version i should use with QuickPwn2.2? Because previously QuickPwn 2.1 didn’t work well with Itune 8.0.2 end up iphone keep hanging.
QuickPwn 2.2 worked fine with the latest version of iTunes
No problems at all ,,, too easy to do .. Same ass 2.1 !!! One thing I don’t like is that u can’t use apps from appulous downloads ,,
Nes Roms didn’t work for me either,, 2.1 much more fun,,, but 2.2 apple firmware is cool ,, much faster I rather use this then having phone issues ,, my phone will go to safe mode and phone won’t work but can make calls threw contact folder ,, and I hung up by holding home and power button it wasn’t worth it there’s few bugs in it ,, so i downgraded back to 2.1 now I’m all good take care !!
when is win pwnagetool 2.2 comin out??
I need custom ispw. Anyone know when
Dev team releasing it??
I’m gonna wait till all the bugs have been worked out… all this risk don’t seem worth it…
if i jailbreak will i also need a turbosim or something of the like to unlock?
I had updated my 2G IPhone with 2.2 firmware and iphone crashes pretty often. Any reason for that?
Downloaded QuickPwn22-1, windows
Downloaded 1,2_2.1_5F136 firmware
Start up quickwpn and get “This version of QuickPwn can only jailbreak devices with versions>=2.0″
3G iphone has 2.0.2 firmware on it.
Anybody else have this issue?
Hi.
iPhone 3G:
I habe the same problem. After successful update to 2.2; Jailbreak and unlock, carrier didn’t function. I began from start and after itunes update, i get “This version of QuickPwn can only jailbreak devices with versions>=2.0″ by starting quickwpn. Please help us…
Thanks
Does Quickpwn remove the need for virginizing a phone that’s on fw 1.0.2 before upgrading to 2.2?
Can I just upgrade or restore through iTunes to version 2.2 and then run Quickpwn to activate, jailbreak and unlock?
My Phone:
FW 1.0.2 (otb 1.0.2)
Jailbroken and unlocked with iBrickr and iUnlock.
Modem FW 03.14.08_G
IMEI 01130000xxxxxxx
Renamed jiPhone (by iUnclock i think)
I believe this is one of the phones where you, at least previously, needed to virginize because of a bad unlock method. I’ve heard some say it’s no longer needed, others sayit still is. What is true?
No, you don’t need to “virginize” the phone. Just restore to 2.2 via itunes (using the latest iTunes 8.0.2.2), then run Quickpwn following the onscreen instructions exactly, and all will be good. No need to piss around like a worry wart, wondering if it will work. IT WILL!
I just bought a iphone 3g. i upgraded to 2.2 and tried to run the quickpwn program. it has been on “wait for your iphone to connect in recovery mode for 10 min. on the iphone it shows the plug into itunes icon. lil help please.
From the Dev-Team Blog, NOTE RULE #6:
1. GOLDEN RULE: If you have a 3G iPhone and want potential soft unlock in the near future do NOT use QuickPwn, and do not use the official ipsw or the iTunes update process without using PwnageTool.
2. Read item 1 again and again.
3. At the bottom of this post are the bittorrent files for the latest versions of PwnageTool and QuickPwn.
4. These are suitable for the recent 2.2 release.
5. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
6. The
6. The late 2008 MacBook/air/pro line of computers have an issue with DFU mode. While it’s possible to go from Pwned 2.1 -> Pwned 2.2 (using PwnageTool), you can’t yet go from stock to pwned. If in any doubt use a different machine.
7. Choosing the correct tool is crucial. Be warned!
I have a first gen. iPhone 2G 8GB version and had upgraded to 2.1 from 1.1.4 using Quickpwn without any problems.
And just recently I restored to 2.2 via iTunes, ran Quickpwn (jailbrake, unlocked) successfully without any problems.
Those of you having problems either don’t know how to follow instructions correctly, interrupting the flashing process somehow, or have hardware defective iPhones.
This process couldn’t be any simpler. It’s practically stupid proof.
@h2
Yes, the process is stupid proof, but the truth is that this time is not working! I’ve used quickpwn before to jailbrake many 2g iphones on firmwares 2.0 and 2.1, but this time i get stock on the “Wait for your iPhone to connect in Recovery Mode…” screen. I don’t know whats causing this problem, but as i keept googling i realizied that this has happened to many of users!
Has anyone managed to solve this problem?
Are you using a 2008 Macbook Pro, Air, etc. or a PC? If a Mac, then that’s your problem.
