Been having trouble unlocking your iPhone 3G with yellowsn0w? Follow this guide!
Note: This IS beta software, there is no guarantee this will work. Use at your own risk!
First is first, Jailbreak your iPhone (If your iPhone is already jailbroken you may skip steps 1-7)
- Install firmware 2.2 if you didn’t already (Download it from our iPhone Downloads section: Here
- Download QuickPwn to jailbreak your iPhone 3G (Again, download it from our iPhone Downloads : Here for Mac
Here for Windows - Pick the desired device, the iPhone 3G of course
- Use the latest firmware version to pwn your iPhone 3G (Download it from our iPhone Downloads section – Link above) If you just updated your phone or updated your phone on the computer you are running quickpwn on, you probably won’t have to download the firmware.
- Quickpwn will rebuild the IPSW
- Quickpwn will send the firmware
- Jailbreaking iPhone 3G was Successful with Quickpwn
- Open Cydia or Installer and enter the yellowsn0w repo URL (Do NOT enter these URLs into your browser)
- Cydia will download the repo packages
- Confirm you want to install yellowsn0w
- Cydia will download yellowsn0w and install it for you
- Turn off the iPhone and install your third party SIM.
- Turn on the phone. Wait until your carrier pops up. If it doesn’t, take the SIM out and reinstall it.

Now that you jailbroke the iPhone 3G, it’s time to unlock the iPhone 3G

Note: If you are in the U.S. and are trying this with T-Mobile, you must turn off the 3G switch in Settings.

Just tried unlocking my iphone, even though I have AT&T currently, but I am experiencing my service cutting in and out.
I am experiencing the same.
When I remove the Zappa app, my service stays up. I’m gonna wait till it isn’t a beta anymore.
Damn the carrier doesen’t pop up. Any suggestions ?

Not working for me. I followed the steps correctly but it gives me a sim failure. I have an iphone 3g under O2 UK. Any suggestions?
Never mind my previous post. Its working. This is what I did. I inserted the O2 sim which it detects cause the phone is locked under O2 network. After it detected the network I went to airplane mode and pulled out the sim and put my sim from telenor. I deactivated airplane mode and it got full network in 10 seconds. Edge is working too. I cannot confirm 3G because it is not supported by my sim.
The trick is I had to do this several times before this happened…more then 10 times actually. I dont know if I did anything by accident but its working right now. I used yellowsnow ver 0.9.4

I think its a good idea to turn off 3g if your sim doesnt support it cause I lost network as soon as I did. But then again I am no expert.
i worked for me yayyyyyy guys if u have 2 iphones or have a friend that owns the 2g or 1g unlocked just put ur sim in his phone and wait till the carrier shows up then put it bak in the 3g it should work i did it to mine. at first i thought i had the same problem as u guys did then i just started messing around and poof my 3g is unlocked

First pawnage went without a hitch, however after installing yellowsn0w the iphone did not unlock to sim used. I repeated the process again, nothing different and it worked perfectly.

Sound, good to hear, because I’m in Ireland and on Meteor too, getting an iPhone 3G and all these forums talk about American networks and I was bricking it in case it wouldn’t work with meteor for whatever reason! Is it easy enough to do yeah?
no leave ur 3g on and switch sims with an tmobile phone wile ur 3g is still on and wen the signal loads on the tmobile phone remove it and put it back in ur 3g it should work i got mine working. my phone dosent read it wen it powers down i have to remove it n put it in a nother fone then put it bak in my 3g wait a minute and it loads. o make sure the 3g switch is off and data roaming is on
It works. The signal for T-mobile is ok. But when I make a call, the signal was dropped. This is a beta version. I hope they will release a full vrsion. Anyway thanks for your hardly work.
Did this Works for ipod touch 2g too ?
please tell me it does. hard to believe that the ipod touch 2g 2.2 firmware is the ONLY device that cant be jailbroken.
I installed the 2.2 upgrade for iPhone3G and then jailbroke it with QuickPwn (windows XP). I also ran the yellowsn0w install, all this done without a problem. But now I see just one bar in the signal strength and the carrier name does not popup. I am using a Vodafone connection in India. Any suggestions?
Once jailbroken, and yellowsnow applied. I found once new sim inserted goto settings and switch on/off airplane mode (few seconds)phone will begin searching… worked like this for both my iphones…

i cant get my iphone to reconnect in recovery mode(the first step in quick pwn) … I mean it does everything else fine connects and finds firmware 2.2, then tries to reconnect in recovery mode(before the steps where it tells you to hold down buttons and all that) and it just stays there for ever and my goes into recovery mode but quick pwn wont pick it up? any ideas

Works LiKe a ChaRM!!!!! UsEd the installer!! and in few mins It unocked!!! and running tmobile as i type plus Wifi works great!!
Can someone help this idiot. Do I need 2 sims to do this? if so, where would one obtain an additional sim? I am really interested in jail braking my phone but seeing that I have never done this before, and without seeing it done, I am confused as to what I will need to have _before_ I start this process.

first you need to download quickpwn 2.2 (thats what i used) then need to download the firmware 2.2…connect iphone to quickpwn after installing it on ur comp…it will take you thru steps after correctly doing the steps it will jail break you iphone….its pretty simple hope this helps

For those who is having hard time try these steps it worked for me on first try… (hope this will help you guys out)

i did everthing it works just fine evething works but no 3g yet im using tmobile i have an 8gb iphone 3g it works for me…. but my dad has a 16gb iphone 3g an we unlocked it but its not workin idk whats wrong wit his we did it alot of times and still dosent work but it works for me i have a 8gb…. if anyone can help me wit the 16gb that will b great….. go dav team go they r the best
install yellowsn0w with the sim card you want to use then reset network setting (thats under setting/general/reset/reset network settings) wait the phone will restart wait 1 or 2 mins there will be no service keep waithing then turn the phone off then back on and your done…
oh yeah phone was locked to optus aus now working with vodafone aus 3g as well

Hey I have a quick question… I called apple a couple of days asking if there was any way to unlock the iphone since I am traveling to a country were iphone is available and wanted to use my iphone with that company. AT APPLE they told me I could run a UNAUTHORIZED UNLOCK (the rep told me this with a rep from AT&T on the line too which started an argument between the 2 of them) and that I WILL NOT LOOSE MY WARRANTY unless my iphone gets broken and the reason for the iphone to be broken was part of the unlocking process.
SO, if I unlock my iphone, and in case of having a problem, can I restore the iphone to factory settings so Apple wouldn’t know the iphone was unlocked???

Yellowsn0w 0.9 to 0.9.5 did’n work on my iphone 3g but after upgrading yellowsn0w to 0.9.6 the software worked perfectlly after a reboot.

Hi guys, I am having problems even jailbreaking the phone which is totally baffling. I have been waiting for this unlock for several months now knowing that I’ll be travelling out of the US for a total of 2 months since X’mas. Naturally when it was finally released, I was so thrilled & downloaded the software. Of course, it didn’t work & didn’t bother trying to remove & reinstall the SIM card since after skimming thru the instructions (oh yes, I had already jailbroken my phone with NO PROBLEMS just one week after buying it in September), I realized I had to update it to 2.2, which I had been avoiding since I had heard my phone will no longer be jailbroken. I really didn’t feel like reinstalling everything again.
Well, I didn’t think anything of it since I’ve jailbroken many of my friend’s phones & as you guys know, that takes less than 7 minutes maybe less.
The first time I did it, nothing happened, no Cydia or Installer icons & when I tried doing a restore, I got this weird cartoon dude with what appeared to be Russian writing coming out of his mouth. Then it was stuck in that state for at least an hour!
Fine, it was evident it stalled so I decided to restore the entire phone to factory settings.
My problem is I have been trying to jailbreak for the past 3 days now & I know most of it is working since if I power on, I see the kernel logo instead of the standard apple. Also, I if I move my icons around (there isn’t enough to fill up one page), I notice that there are 2 existing pages. If I flip to the second page, it is blank. Which means ‘something’ is there. I just don’t see the Cydia or Installer icons! Reinstalled it several times including removing the kernel (kernel does remove so something IS going thru), but no other icons appear.
No icons, means no downloading of the unlocking software or any other 3rd party software for that matter.
Sorry for the long explanation but I wanted to be clear on the steps I took so I get a clearer solution to this problem.

which quickpwn are u using? use 2.2 it works great after u get this download firmware 2.2 have it on ur desktop or whereever its easy for u to get connect the phone and follow the steps its fairly simple n will be jailbroken

Idon’t know if Im using the rigth quicpwn or what the version is QuickPwn22 but when comes the part that I have to hold down the home button 5 seconds and the power with the home 10 sec after the home 30 sec nothing happends can somebody tell me what to do??

i have had my iphone 3g for a while now and decided to jailbreak it but i dont realy no how. i downloaded firmware 2.2.1 and quickpwn 2.2.5 i restored the firmware and then tried to open then run quickpwn but it keeps telling me ….the appilcation failed to initialize (0xc0000135). click on ok to terminate the application….. is there anything that im supposed to do that im missing?

I’m getting a second-hand iPhone 3G, so when it says in the instructions above to install firmware 2.2 and also to download quickpwn, should I do it on the computer of the guy I’m getting it from? Also, when should I put my own simcard in the iPhone? Like, before I do any of the steps above or after a certain point? Thanks in advance for the help, just I’m not very technologically advanced, haha! If it matters, I use a Mac and the guy I’m getting th Iphone from uses one too?
