You asked for it so we delivered! Here is a tutorial on how to add Hotmail POP3 to the iPhone or iPod Touch Mail application. It’s very easy and this will work with virtually any POP3 or IMAP E-Mail provider assuming they use POP or IMAP. Let’s continue now…

Note: In this tutorial a US Hotmail account is used

  1. Lets start with opening the Settings application in the Springboard (Home Screen)

  2. Second, Scroll down and tap on Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  3. Click Images To Enlarge

  4. Once you’re in the Mail, Contacts, Calendars window, tap on Add Account…
  5. Alright, now it’s time to add the account, tap on Other
  6. Now, it’s time to add the details of the account – in this case we will use an iPhone-Hacks hotmail account – Please, do NOT use the email address shown in the image to contact us. If you need to get in contact with us use the Contact Us page
  7. After you’re done entering the account details tap Save
  8. There you have it! Hotmail on the iPhone or iPod Touch! Awesome right?

It is nice that you can get Hotmail on your iPhone. I find mboxmail in Apples App Store much better so my flags and folders are in sync.

Also it works with all hotmail domains and not just .com.

Its just a shame you have to pay for something which should already be built into the iPhone.

I blame M$ ¬_¬

it works but it marks ALL mail as new, and it doesn’t upload the folders, or sync the mail.

You can transfer you hotmail account to gmail, and then hook the gmail account to the iphone … they are very good friends :-)

I have hotmail. have had it for years, and am hesitant to burden my friends with changing my default email address to one at gmail, even though I can see that gmail is better and that it works better with the iphone. Now I log into hotmail thru the phone and look at my mail, but I can see it’s a lousy system.
what I don’t understand is how will this new application work with the iphone. will it be activated by pushing the mail button? will it yield something that looks like gmail. will my emails be stored on the phone? will it be as good as gmail?
Iv’e never understood what pop3 email did that hotmail doesn’t.
Thanks for your help

Follow the steps here and you will have Hotmail in the iPhone Mail application so you wont have to going to hotmail.com to check your email anymore it will be downloaded to your iPhone automatically and you will check it there (in the Mail app) and reply from there too.

It will work exactly like it does for GMail except it will be Hotmail not gmail. hope that answers your question

It worked with my hotmail.co.uk so thank you so much. I put in the settings as suggested and then after it showed as one of my email addresses on my iphone, I sent a message to my hotmail.co.uk account from my gmail account on a desktop. It came through within seconds. Yeehaar!!!
