T-Mobile.nl has posted some technical specs about the iPhone 3G S revealing that the newest iPhone carries a 600 MHz processor and 256MB of RAM. A nice bump in processor power from the iPhone 3G.
The iPhone 3G had a 412mhz processor while the iPod Touch had a 532mhz processor, until now, the 2nd generation iPod Touch was the fastest device by a good margin on the lineup but the iPhone 3G S has changed that. The previous generation models have 128MB of ram while the iPhone 3G S has a whopping 256MB of ram, so, the new device offers twice as much of RAM. The processor/ram information seems to confirm many details that were first revealed in a Chinese forum post.
The new iPhone is also believed to use the new PowerVR SGX graphics processing unit which provides support for OpenGL ES 2.0. This notably improved performance may require developers to support these multiple device capabilities within their apps.
For those interested in more of a technical analysis, Anandtech offers a detailed breakdown of the new iPhone’s processor and GPU, according to their sources.
Although unannounced, the iPhone 3GS uses (again) a Samsung SoC but this time instead of the ARM11 + MBX-Lite combo it’s got a Cortex A8 and PowerVR SGX; just like the Pre.

yeah uhhh cool you coulda just said its faster LOL cant wait now all i gotta do is hide it from the wife…..
ooh yay if the dev team crack’s this one then zod might be able to make faster much smoother emulators or even a N64 emulator :D
is the battery the same? with the faster processor, doubl the RAM, 32gb HDD, better camera+autofocus and flash if it’s the same battery as the current 3G sub-par crap its going to be rediculously inneficient to charge like 10 times a day.
I’m gonna wait until the iPhone with the OLED screen comes out :P
I rejected the iPhone from day one – I was a Nokia addict for 10+ years – why was I so stubborn? I don’t know but now with an Apple 3Gs phone in hand I shout it out to the world….
