Today, the famous and very well known iPhone Dev Team have released their long awaited iPhone OS 3.0 jailbreak for both iPhone and iPod Touch. Sadly for Windows users, PwnageTool is Mac OS X only, but Quickpwn for Mac OS X and Windows will be released very soon according to the iPhone Dev Team.
- GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use PwnageTool right now. UltraSn0w is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be release via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 unlock works with this PwnageTool release.
- Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you can get it via Cydia or Icy).
- Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
- Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
- This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release.
- PwnageTool will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
- PwnageTool WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch (1st Generation) and the iPhone 3G.
SIM Free/SP Unlocked/Factory Unlocked iPhone 3G
This applies if you bought your iPhone 3G for $$$$$$$. This model of iPhone 3G doesn’t have an Service Provider lock (aka factory unlocked) and you are able to put any SIM card into the phone and get service. Your phone is already unlocked so you do not need to worry about baseband updates, simply upgrade to 3.0 using iTunes and then use PwnageTool to create an ipsw and then use this to jailbreak your phone.iPhone 2G (1st Generation)
Use PwnageTool to do the magic and then restore with iTunes using your newly created .ipsw ‘nuff said, you don’t need to worry about anything, the baseband will be unlocked, the phone jailbroken.
iPod Touch 1G (Original iPod Touch)
Use PwnageTool to create a firmware image and restore with that .ipsw using iTunes.
iPod Touch 2G (New iPod Touch)
Sorry, no support at this time within PwnageTool, use Redsn0w for an earlier (pre 3.0) firmware release instead.

Just a heads up, probably dont apply to many people on here, but this program has problems on PPC CPUs (G4, G5)..so if you dont have Intel CPU, it wont work. Sadly, i’m on a G4 and dont know anyone with an Intel Mac :(

Hi, Sorry all this yellowsnow and ultra snow is confusing. I have the Iphone 3g. How do you know if you rely on yellowsnow. Its all a bit overwhelming. thanks
If you need yellowsnow to use your iphone with your service provider, then wait for ultrasnow to be released before you upgrade to 3.0 firmware and jailbreak it

no internet connection, can’t make calls
I had iphone 3G on 2.2 , then I upgraded to 3.0 via itunes … now its stuck on emergency calls screen ( Although I can make/rcv calls but cant do anything else ) … if I just get a pwned IPSW and do a restore will it work or should I wait for Quickpwn?? and if pwned IPSW works then which version and can someone be kind enough to upload it??

that’s a pwned ipsw, do a DFU mode restore
I tried that, initially iTunes ( 8.2 ) doesnt recognise the iPhone, then when I go into DFU mode it recognises the phone and tells me that need to recover it… then I press Shift-Restore and open the pwned ipsw , that is when it tells me “The iPhone could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible” … Anything that I am doing wrong???
I cant download this file or any other ipsw. It gets disconnected after few seconds. Any clue?

If u jailbroken n update to 3.0 then it gets unjailbroken… Dont do it buddy…n somhow my intel mac mini aint jailbreakin my damn 3.0 …its coming up wth same error msg!!!
I recently got the iphone and it is updated to the new version 3.0. I’m unable to jailbreak it again after its updated. Also I have the new version of itunes 8.2. When I attempt to restore it with the older version it won’t let me. Please help me!!!!

Hey, could anyone upload a custom ipsw for a first generation iPhone with all default settings (activate, unlock baseband, all that jazz… and if possible without the custom logos, if it’s not too much of a drag ;))

HI, i have a problem, i have Iphone 2G ( 1st generation) i update it to 3.0, I jailbreak it and unlocked it, after i did this process my iphone start loosing battery charge so fast, so fast i mean after every full charge i will lose battery after few hours without using the iphone, and if i remove the sim card from the phone the battery will work normal but if i put it back again the charge will go, do anyone know about this issue?? i need help with this plz.
