Computerworld is reporting that Apple is looking to bring iPhone OS to new devices beyond iPhone, iPod Touch and recently launched iPad based on a Apple Job listing posted last week.

Apple is looking for “Engineering Manager (Platform Bring-Up)” and as per the job listing, requires the employee to lead a team of engineers working with hardware and “custom silicon” teams to bring-up new platforms and prototypes.

The Core Platform team within Apple’s Core OS organization is looking for a talented and inspired manager to lead a team focused on bring-up of iPhone OS on new platforms. The team is responsible for low level platform architecture, firmware, core drivers and bring-up of new hardware platforms. The team consists of talented engineers with experience in hardware, firmware, IOKit drivers, security and platform architecture.

Computerworld speculates that Apple could bring the iPhone OS to devices like Apple TV, enterprise-class Time Capsule micro-server offerings and others.

Two years down the road, other low ends of the Apple Mac line might get eaten up by the Apple processor/iPhone OS. Mac Mini and Mac Book, I am looking directly at you. Once there is an iPhone OS running the TV and the MacBook Air segments, it isn’t a great leap to expect to see it in low end Macs.

It does make sense for Apple to take advantage of iPhone OS and bring it to devices like AppleTV. I like the idea of being able to play iPhone games or use some of the 150,000 or more iPhone apps onto a beautiful 60-inch HDTV.

We have good news for anyone who accidentally updated to iPhone OS 3.1.3, which in turn updated the baseband on the device. GeoHot, iPhone Hacking expert and creator of popular unlocking and jailbreaking tools, such as Blackra1n and Blacksn0w, has discovered a working exploit for baseband 05.12.01.

Geohot has tweeted the hash tag of the baseband crash “for safekeeping”:

d8b50dc95d7906e3ff6155331a534b55d0f6cac1=good.

In addition, iHackintosh has also published the conversation between Visnet (iHackintosh reader), Geohot and MuscleNerd:

<visnet_> What does geohot tweet mean?
<geohot> its my bb exploit for safekeeping
<Par4doX> geohot: did you turn that over to the dev team or are you doing something with it?
<geohot> my days of turning things over are done
<geohot> i hope its different from the one they have
<geohot> but they prob already have it
<geohot> its the one i orig wanted to release blacksn0w with
<Par4doX> it’s still there in the new bb
<geohot> yep, just checked
<geohot> but then opted to use xemn since it was public
<Evan> Oo, it carries over from 05.11 to 05.12?
<geohot> why wouldn’t it, apple doesn’t fix things proactivly
<MuscleNerd> geohot we prob should figure out a way to know if we have same exploit double blind, otherwise we may release 2 different ones at same time
<geohot> any suggestions?
<MuscleNerd> not sure how to do that without making it easy to brute force though
<geohot> yea, i salted the hash
<MuscleNerd> yeah
<MuscleNerd> hmm maybe if we both hash the stack dump
<Confucious> Can you two take this out of public sight?
<MuscleNerd> the stack itself, not the header before it or the registers after it
<Her> muscle: any notice about the exploits are the same ?
<geohot> we are working on it
<geohot> cryptography, perfect for people who don’t trust each other

The conversation indicates that both the iPhone Dev Team and Geohot have a working exploit for the latest baseband and could release tools to jailbreak and unlock iPhone OS 3.1.3.

Stay tuned!

Great news! Apple has increased the download cap on iPhone’s AppStore and iTunes Store. It used to be 10MB but has been increased the limit to 20MB – What does this mean? It means those applications you’ve tried to download on-the-go only to find out you cannot because of the 10MB download cap, now, you can as long as the application is under 20MB.

iPhone Download Cap Limit

The download cap only affects users when using AT&T’s EDGE or 3G network, it does not affect users using Wi-Fi.

Wow, a day after the iPhone Dev Team released their updated Redsn0w software, Apple releases an update to iPhone OS. This isn’t a significant update to the iPhone OS. It doesn’t introduce new and exciting features to the current hardware but it does fix a number of issues and bugs.

Apple iPhone OS 3.1.3 Update

This update fixes and improves the following:

  • Improves accuracy of reported battery level on iPhone 3GS
  • Resolves issue where third-party apps would not launch in some instances
  • Fixes bug that may cause an app to crash when using the Japanese Kana keyboard

This update is for all current hardware, iPhone 1G (EDGE), iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and all iPod Touch devices. You can easily get the update via iTunes by connecting your device and clicking “Check for Update”

*Note* It’s been confirmed by the iPhone Dev Team that Redsn0w 0.9.2 works with this new iPhone OS update only with iPhone 1G (EDGE) and iPhone 3G and *ONLY* if you don’t care about unlocking. Just point Redsn0w 0.9.2 to the iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware IPSW — The iPhone Dev Team urges iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch users who wish to jailbreak to stay away from this update until further notice!

Downloads:
iPhone OS 3.1.3 Downloads will be up shortly!
iPhone 2G EDGE 3.1.3 IPSW Download

The good ol’ folks from the iPhone Dev Team have updated redsn0w after a long time without any updates.

iPhone Dev Team Redsn0w 0.9.2 update

A cross-platform jailbreaking, unlocking, and customizing tool for iPhones and iPod touches. Customizations include boot logos, recovery logos, and “verbose” boot. It’s a standalone program that doesn’t use iTunes (no custom IPSWs are involved).

iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w finally supports iPhone OS 3.1.2 but it’s still tether-only for late models such as the iPod Touch 2G if the serial number starts with “MC”, any iPod Touch 3G and iPhone 3GS.

The new version of Redsn0w also adds new features such as, Verbose boot, addition of custom Boot Logos, and bypassing jailbreak if your device is already jailbroken.

Redsn0w downloads will be up shortly!

AppleInsider reports some info from a source claiming that Apple is looking to acquire large quantities of LED camera flash components, initiating speculation that the company is planning to add flash capabilities to its camera on the iPhone, and possibly the iPod touch if it ever gains a camera.

People familiar with Apple’s initiative claim the electronics maker is seeking allotments of LED camera flash components in the tens of millions for delivery during the 2010 calendar year, meaning future iPhones — and possibly the iPod touch — are the most likely recipients of those parts, due to their sales volume. Those same people say that Philips’ Lumileds Lighting sector is believed to be the front-runner for Apple’s business and may have already secured the design win.

Despite the generally-decent image quality of Apple’s existing 3.2-megapixel camera in the iPhone 3GS, increasing numbers of smartphones, including the Motorola Droid and Google Nexus One, have been moving to 5-megapixel camera sensors with LED flash to assist in low-light situations.

Apple has reportedly secured orders with current camera sensor supplier OmniVision Technologies for large quantities of 5-megapixel camera sensors, likely destined for the next-generation iPhone.

Today, Apple announced that users have now downloaded over three billion iPhone and iPod touch applications from AppStore since its July 2008 launch.

“Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months — this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”

The AppStore reached 2 billion downloads just over 3 months ago. The new milestone represents continued acceleration of growth for the store as Apple’s handheld devices continue to attract significant numbers of customers. The App Store continues to be available to customers in 77 countries, offering applications in 20 categories.

All Things D claims that Apple’s rumored media event will actually take place on Wednesday, January 27th rather than the 26th as originally rumored.

Sources in a position to know tell me Apple (AAPL) is indeed planning a media event later this month at which it will announce a major new product. The gathering is to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, a space Apple often uses for media events like these. According to other sources, it will occur on Wednesday Jan. 27, not Tuesday Jan. 26, as had been rumored.

Apple is rumored to be launching the highly expected Apple Tablet rumored to be called “iSlate” – Other rumors suggest that Apple will be announcing details about the next generation iPhone

First of all, Happy New Years! —The Financial Times reports that it has received word that Apple has scheduled a special media event for Tuesday, January 26th in San Francisco. The event will reportedly be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, site of the company’s music-focused events held each fall in recent years.

The company has rented a stage at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco for several days in late January, according to people familiar with the plans.

Apple is expected to use the venue to make a major product announcement on Tuesday, January 26th. Both YBCA and Apple declined to comment.

The topic of next month’s rumored media event is currently unknown, although rumors have been flying today about Apple’s tablet device plans, with a report claiming that Apple has asked several iPhone application developers to prepare their apps for demonstration on a larger screen device sometime next month.

Here’s a big surprise! (Sarcasm) – Media research firm, Nielsen, released its list for top U.S. mobile phones, sites, and brands for the first ten months of 2009, and not surprisingly, Apple iPhone 3G took top spot among mobile phones with 4% of the market. The Apple iPhone placed slightly ahead of RIM’s BlackBerry 8300 series at 3.7%, and well ahead of the remainder of the pack, which was led by Motorola’s RAZR V3 series at 2.3%.

In addition, Apple also made an appearance on Nielsen’s list of top ten brands accessed via mobile networks for the January-September 2009. Apple took tenth place – Yahoo! took first place and Google, sadly, took second place.
