This is the first time we’ve covered an app like this, but hey, it just goes to show: there is indeed an app for everything and everyone on the AppStore.

We received word from Kerry Mann Jr. — Father of triplets + one and also newly successful iPhone developer. Mann decided to start developing iPhone applications to help support his family and also help other parents. That said — Pregnancy Countdown was born.

Pregnancy Countdown is a set of tools to help expecting parents’ get through their pregnancy.

Pregnancy Countdown is an impressive set of Pregnancy Tools integrated with Facebook and so much more… Countdown to the due date, Facebook connect, Social Updates, Baby Alert, Diaper Calculator, Weekly Baby Stats and Fetus Images, Pregnancy Journal, 55 free babysamples, and a special section for pregnancy contacts!

Features:

  • Pregnancy Countdown Timer: input your due date and the app counts down the days and shows time remaining and other pregnancy related details.
  • Baby Name Picker: brainstorm baby names from our list of hundreds of names. Sort by popularity. Still unsure? With the push of a button ask your friends on Facebook, Twitter or Email- “We are considering the following names….” which do you like?”
  • Weekly Baby Images: The app features a weekly fetus/baby image. There is a 2D and 3D image for each week. You can also scroll forward to see what next weeks image will look like.
  • Baby Alert: a simple button! Push the button and this feature will send a message (that you can customize) via email, even Facebook and Twitter to all of your friends and family to announce the delivery! You select who will receive the message ahead of time– once your baby is born you can push the button and announce the delivery!

Much thanks to Kerry Mann Jr. for writing us. Keep an eye out for his new applications currently in development.

We also encourage other developers to write in with their stories on how they became an iPhone developer or why you decided to become one. We love to hear and write about your stories. You may contact us here.

Pregnancy Countdown [iTunes link] is a free application, which can be downloaded from the AppStore [iTunes link].

The folks over at Kwai.cc have written a simple application for the iPhone that’s pretty powerful. With Kwai.cc’s Instant Share application, you can choose specific photos from your iPhone’s photo album and share them (without uploading) to anyone with a web browser that has Adobe Flash Player installed. It’s simple, choose the photos and the Instant Share app will process the photos to sharing and once it’s done, it will give you a code that you give out to your family or buddies and they enter it at www.kwai.cc. They enter that code and the photos you chose will appear on their screen. If you chose multiple photos, you can scroll through the photos and as you’re scrolling though them on your iPhone, they’re scrolling on your buddys’ or families’ computer screen(s).

Kwai Instant Share doesn’t require Wi-Fi unlike other applications, you can do this over AT&T’s 3G network, which is awesome. Another awesome feature that Kwai Instant Share takes advantage of is, since when you make a call on your iPhone, it doesn’t turn off 3G or WiFi. So you can call your buddy or family member and then press the home screen to start up the Instant Share application and share the code with them along with the photos.

However, there are some things I wish to see improved and there are some features I would like to see added. Like when you share a photo, the photo is not displayed at the full resolution. I would also love to see the ability to add and remove images on-the-fly without having to close the current remote session and starting a new one — that’s just a pain.

In addition: being able to zoom into a specific area in the image would be great. If you zoom the image on the iPhone (you cannot currently), it would be cool to see the image zoom on the remote end. That would change the way many people use the application.

Overall, this application is a great way to share images to your friends and family without having to upload the images. It’s simple, it’s easy, and it’s cheap. The application costs $0.99 for the full application; there’s also a free version that limits the images you can select to 12, and it’s ad supported. You can get the paid version here [iTunes link] or you can get the free ad-supported version here [iTunes link]

Apple has approved Ustream Live Broadcaster [iTunes link] which offers users the ability to stream live video directly from their iPhones via Wi-Fi and 3G.

Ustream Live Broadcaster Ustream Live Broadcaster

While one of the key features of the iPhone 3GS was video recording capabilities, that was limited to recordings that were captured on your device and could be uploaded to the web after they were done recording. With the Ustream Live Broadcaster, you can easily record videos right to the web, and allow others to watch them as they’re being recorded. These videos can also be archived so that people can watch them later, if they choose.

The application also offers a number of other features, including Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube integration, viewer chatting and polling, and geolocation.

Ustream Live Broadcaster [iTunes link] is absolutely free and is available in the AppStore [iTunes link]

This is one neat app. Photospeak [iTunes Link] by MotionPortrait Inc allows you to take a picture from your photo library or take a picture with the camera and with Photospeak’s own face recognition technology, they’ll detect the face and turn the face into a 3D face and make it move and blink like a real human. You can also record your voice and play it back and the mouth of the 3D picture will move like it’s really talking. Note: iPod Touch users may need a mic to record your voice.

Photospeak Demo

It’s scary how realistic the results look. and not only will Photospeak work with human faces but it will also work with cartoon characters and even doodles. I have not tried Photospeak with cartoons or doodles so I can not say how good it’ll work, but it works darn well with human faces.

Unfortunately, Photospeak does not allow you to send the 3D pictures to a friend but they plan on adding that feature in the near future. Also, another downside on the current version (1.0.1) is that you can’t save multiple voices. You can only save one voice and that’s it. However, in the upcoming 1.0.2 update, you’ll be able to save multiple voices, assign a voice to each face, sending a snapshot by email, saving snapshots to the camera roll.

PhotoSpeak is at a reasonable price of $2.99USD – I believe the sweet spot would be .99USD – and you can buy/download the app in the AppStore [iTunes Link]

For the first time ever, EA’s Rock Band makes it to the AppStore! Rock Band is an awesome game for the iPhone, iPod Touch and various other game consoles such as the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Rock Band for iPhone and iPod Touch is just the same as Rock Band for gaming consoles except you don’t play with plastic instruments, you use your fingers on the touch screen to play.

Rock Band for iPod Touch and iPhone Rock Band for iPod Touch and iPhone

Rock Band for iPhone comes with 20 songs from bands such as Smashing Pimpkins, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Foo Fighters, Blink-182, The Beastie Boys and more. You can play solo or with up to 4 buddies with Live Bluetooth Multiplayer, though unfortunately bluetooth multiplayer is unavailable on the first gen iPhone and iPod Touch.

Rock Band for iPhone is priced at $9.99USD and you may purchase it on the AppStore [iTunes Link].

About time this application is released! I have been waiting for this application since the AppStore was launched! Photoshop.com Mobile for iPhone is essentially Mini Photoshop for iPhone! You can edit pictures very easily by using simple finger gestures, awesome!

Photoshop.com Mobile for iPhone lets you quickly and easily edit and share your photos with simple gestures directly on your iPhone. Photoshop.com Mobile is like having your entire photo library in your pocket without wasting your phone’s valuable storage space.

Photoshop.com Mobile is your iPhone companion to Photoshop.com, your online photo sharking, editing and hosting resource.

Photoshop.com Mobile for iPhone - Photoshop for iPhone

Features:

  • Basics: Crop, rotate, and flip
  • Color: Exposure, saturation, tint, black and white
  • Filters: Sketch, Soft Focus
  • Effects: Vibrant, Pop, Border, Vignette Blur, Warm Vintage, Rainbow, White Glow, Soft Black and White

Photoshop.com Mobile for iPhone integrates nicely with Photoshop.com, however, it doesn’t have as many features as I would like it to have, but it has the basics and has room to grow on future versions.

Photoshop.com Mobile [iTunes link] for iPhone is free and can be downloaded on the AppStore and if you don’t yet have a Photoshop.com account, you can create one for free at the source link!

Tweetie 2 - Tweets

The folks over at Atebits have developed an awesome application for both the iPhone and Mac called Tweetie. Tweetie is a very clean, lightweight and powerful application that will allow you to easily tweet from your Mac OS X machine or your iPhone. Tweetie for iPhone has won an Apple Design Award, that’s how awesome this app is!

Tweetie 1 was an awesome application by itself. It was amazingly easy to use that anyone can tweet with complete ease. The interface has that very nice and elegant feel to it as if Steve Jobs himself designed it. Well, now, Tweetie 2 [iTunes Link] was released. Guess what? It’s even more cleaner, even more elegant and flat out amazing. Tweetie 1 set the bar very high and Tweetie 2 has set the bar even higher.

Unfortunately, Tweetie 1 and Tweetie 2 are two different applications both developed by Atebits. Instead of updating Tweetie 1 into Tweetie 2, the dev decided to release it as a completely new application which is fine because Tweetie 2 is definitely worth it.

Features:

  • Seamlessly handle multiple Twitter accounts
  • Explore all of Twitter, from your own timeline and mentions, to the favorite tweets of your followers and friends
  • Full persistence: more than just caching tweets, Tweetie 2 restores your entire UI if you quit or get a phone call
  • Fantastic new offline mode. Read, tweet, favorite, follow, save to Instapaper and more even when you don’t have a connection. Your actions will be synced as soon as you go back online
  • Full landscape support (configurable of course)
  • Live-filter your tweet stream
  • Post photos and videos, even configure your own custom image host
  • Vastly improved compose screen with recent hashtags, @people picker, URL shortening and more
  • Compose screen multiple-attachments manager
  • Drafts manager ensures you never lose a tweet (and you can even send drafts to Birdhouse)

To list a few.

Tweetie is highly recommended for any twitter user on Mac OS X or on iPhone. Tweetie 2 [iTunes Link] is priced at $2.99USD and can be purchased on the AppStore and is worth every penny. Tweetie for Mac OS X, on the other hand, is priced at $19.95USD for an ad-free version, otherwise it’s free and supported by ads. Tweetie for OS X can be purchased at the source link. It truly is an amazing twitter client.

Prowl is probably one of the best non-IM use of Push notifications for the iPhone ever. If you’ve seen a notification on your computer screen pop up and then gracefully fade away, you’ve probably seen Growl, if not then you must get it. It’s the open source & popular system-wide framework that allows applications to let you know when something happens. For instance, a Growl notification might appear to inform you of a newly-arrived email, new mentions on Twitter, a change of song in iTunes, or a download completing in Safari or Transmission. What Prowl allows you to do is basically the same thing Growl allows, informs you when you have email and such. You can also forward Growl notifications from your computer to your iPhone or iPod Touch. Excellent way to receive notifications about your applications running on your computer on your iPhone or iPod Touch when you’re not home, or just simply not on the computer.

Prowl - Growl Client for iPhone Prowl - Growl Client for iPhone

Description:

Prowl is the Growl client for iPhone OS. Notifications from your Mac or Windows computer are sent to your iPhone or iPod Touch using push, Prowl has an extensive API which allows your scripts to integrate beautifully.

To receive notifications in Prowl you are required to have at least the latest version of one of the following installed:

Prowl [iTunes Link] , unfortunately, isn’t free but it’s at a nice low price and very affordable $2.99USD and you can get it on the AppStore

Doodle Jump by the folks at Lima Sky is probably one of the funnest and most addictive games made for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Doodle Jump has that awesome doodle on paper look, which I absolutely love!

So, what’s Doodle Jump about? Doodle Jump is an insanely addictive and fun platform jumping game. As you jump higher and higher the more points you rack up and the platforms start moving, the monsters, UFOs, and the black holes start appearing and suddenly, the game starts getting much more challenging.
