iResQ, an iPhone/iPod repairing company, has published what appears to be parts for next generation’s iPhone. The iPhone 4G may be taller than what we’re all used to, judging from the pictures the different is slight and fortunately, not major.

The front panel on the iPhone 4G has a different design than what we know, aside from the taller form factor, there appears to be small reflective ‘window’ above the speaker which may be used for the proximity sensor. The digitizer and LCD also have a different design than the iPhone 3G and 3GS model; they are factory glued like the one found on the iPhone EDGE/2G. The front panel is 1/4″ (6.35mm) longer than the iPhone 3GS.

Remember, this is just a rumor. Apple has not yet released the device so the end product may be completely different than what you are looking at right now.

Businessweek reports that Apple and Microsoft are currently in negotiations to replace Google as the default search engine on the iPhone with Microsoft’s Bing. The negotiation have reportedly been underway for weeks.

Businessweek quoted the increasing rivalry between Google and Apple as one of the reasons behind the discussions.

“Apple and Google know the other is their primary enemy,” says one of the people, who’s familiar with Apple’s thinking. “Microsoft is now a pawn in that battle.”

If the negotiations are successful, it could also mean that Bing could eventually replace Google as the default search engine for Apple’s desktop version of Safari as well.

Even if Apple and Microsoft do come to an agreement, Businessweek notes that this may just be a time-buying move on Apple’s part who is reportedly working on their own search technology.

Boy Genius Report claims to have received information from a source regarding iPhone OS 4.0, which is rumored to be introduced at next week’s media event in San Francisco. According to the source, iPhone OS 4.0 will be limited to the iPhone 3G and 3GS (presumably including at least more recent iPod touch models and omitting the original iPhone) and will incorporate solutions for multitasking by running applications in the background and a revamped user interface for easier navigation.

  • There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)
  • “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.
  • Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.
  • The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”
  • The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.

The ability to run iPhone applications in the background has been near the top of many users’ wish lists, but Apple has yet to implement full backgrounding and multitasking due to its effect on performance and battery life, instead opting to deploy push notifications as a means for closed applications to serve data to users.

With the announcement from AT&T that the MMS Carrier Update rumors started circulating that iPhone OS 3.1 will appear alongside the AT&T MMS Carrier Update on September 25.

Many sites are pointing to Know Your Mobile as the source of the rumor. That story, however, appears to be a slight embellishment of claims made by FSMdotCOM last week. FSMdotCOM’s report, in turn, quotes a ModMyi user who noticed portions of MMS functionality in the iPhone OS 3.1 beta and who reportedly received word from an AT&T representative that MMS would be enabled by the end of the month in backing up a previous FSMdotCOM report from early August simply claiming that MMS functionality would be coming “later this summer” after the launch of iPhone OS 3.1.

Further confusing the issue is that the follow-up FSMdotCOM report citing the ModMyi claim was made in late August, and the end of the month has come and gone with no sign of MMS on AT&T. Other sites, however, didn’t pick up on the story until September, and some have misinterpreted the report to be claiming an end-of-September timeframe.

All of the claims seem to stem from the original FSMdotCOM report from early August that simply noted what was already known or reasonably surmised.

The information i just got from my AT&T ninja , seems to be the same as “later this summer”. He told me that AT&T will enable MMS for its users once the new iPhone firmware 3.1 will be released . Released date for the new firmware is not certain, all we know is that it will be released towards the end of August or early September.

This is not to discount the possibility of iPhone OS 3.1 being launched next week with MMS from AT&T coming along for the ride, as it is a reasonable guess based on Apple’s introduction of iPhone OS 2.1 at last year’s event and MMS being turned on by default in iPhone OS 3.1 betas, but claims of anything more than speculation appear to based on little solid information at this time.

A few days ago we reported a rumor circulating around that Rogers, Apple’s Canadian iPhone Carrier, will be selling it’s last bit of iPhone 3G 8GB inventory and replacing the 3G iPhone with an 8GB iPhone 3GS. Well, now there’s even more evidence backing up the rumor. This time Gizmodo has received an alleged screenshot of Rogers Wireless’ internal sales systems for hardware upgrades listing an 8GB iPhone 3GS. Based on the screenshot and the Rogers employee, this 8GB iPhone 3GS Model will be offered for the same price as the current 8GB iPhone 3G, $99, under the standard three-year commitment plan.

Image from Gizmodo; Click to enlarge

It clearly shows that an 8GB 3GS has been added to our stock list and is the same price as the 3G coming in at 99$…

The first listing is showing 74.00$ (promo price with data plan and minus customers 25$ discount)

The second listing shows the phone if the customer does not choose a data plan, which is normall 299$ minus said $25 discount, so 274$

I think that when 3G stock runs out they are going to build 99$ 3GSs since those are the parts they are ordering, might as well keep the parts list minimal…

Remember, this is a rumor and should be treated as nothing more. This may turn out to be very true or very false. But Stay tuned for more!

Boy Genius Report received a tip from what they claim to be a pretty good reliable source suggesting that iTunes 9 will have several new features. The rumored features include support for Blu-ray media and visual organization of iPhone and iPod touch applications within iTunes, as well as some form of social networking/media integration. I’m sure many people are really hoping for Twitter integration.

One of the new additions to iTunes is said to include Blu-ray support which lines up nicely with a recent Apple Insider report about Apple integrating Blu-ray into their new iMac line-up. Something else that will most likely make a bunch of people happy is that we’ve been told iTunes 9 will finally include the ability to visually organize and arrange your iPhone and iPod touch applications. Something that wasn’t so clearly described was some kind of Twitter/Facebook/Last.fm integration. Maybe broadcasting what song you’re playing to your friends?

Personally, I would very much love integrated Last.fm scrobbling. No timeframe for iTunes 9 was suggested by BGR’s source, however, Apple holds special events in September to update its iPod line and to update iTunes, so it’s reasonable to speculate that iTunes 9 may be unveiled at that time. Stay tuned for updates!

Boy Genius Report has received tips that Rogers Wireless, Apple’s Canadian iPhone carrier, is in the process of shipping an 8 GB version of the iPhone 3GS to its retail stores. BGR has also received pictures of what appear to be an internal memo in Rogers’ retail computer system announcing the transition to the new model to staff members.

We’ve had a number of unconfirmed tips over the last few days about this so we figured we’d post itÂ… apparently it seems that Rogers in Canada is in the process of shipping iPhone 3GS 8GB flavor handsets to stores. Again, unconfirmed, no idea on pricing (we have no clue where to start on that) but we felt it was newsworthy to at least let you guys know what we’re hearing.

Rogers iPhone 3GS 8GB

According to the photos, it seems Rogers well sell it’s inventory of 8 GB iPhone 3G before transitioning to the iPhone 3GS as a replacement at the 8 GB level. This will be a very aggressive move if it stays at the current $99USD.

Ars Technica reports that the latest version of the iPhone OS 3.1 beta seeded to developers last week contains an updated configuration file that references two mysterious products known as “iProd0,1″ and “iProd1,1″. A “iProd0,1″ reference was initially found back in March in a version of the same configuration file in an iPhone OS 3.0 beta release, but this “iProd1,1″ addition appears to be new.

The iProd1,1 device has been assigned a new productID of 4762 (versus 4757 of iProd0,1) and assigned a different ConfigurationDescriptor of “standardMuxPTPEthernet.” iPhone models also have this designation, and the additional interface identified in the plist for this configuration is “AppleUSBEthernet.” The consensus here seems to be that the new device may have gained high-speed networking capabilities — though the iPhone uses the interface to tether to a laptop to share its 3G connection.

“iProd0,1″ suggested that the device was simply a prototype, but the new “iProd1,1″ version may be a device that’s ready for public release or public announcement.

What exactly is this “iProd” device, well, that remains a mystery but speculation is fun and people speculate it’s Apple’s rumored tablet computer, however, it’s unclear whether that device would run iPhone OS or something more like Mac OS X. Possibilities noted by Ars Technica include a next-generation iPod Nano rumored to include a camera or perhaps an “iPhone Nano” that everyone’s been waiting for. Personally, I think it’s an iPhone that will be released to the Verizon network. Rumors coming from TWiT.tv’s podcast MacBreak Weekly suggests an iPhone will be released to Verizon in the very near future.

References to unreleased products “iPod2,2″, “iPod3,1″, and “iPhone3,1″ also appear in the configuration file. The “iPhone2,1″ device discovered in a similar manner in January eventually turned out to be the iPhone 3GS.

Multichannel News reports that Apple’s iPhone may be next in line to get the ability to stream content from Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” feature. The feature is available if you have a Netflix subscription and works on Mac and PC as well as various other compatible devices such as an Xbox 360.

Netflix, ahead of pay-TV providers, continues extending its own “TV Everywhere” strategy to more devices.
Next up: The company will soon offer the Watch Instantly video-streaming feature on Apple iPhones and iPod Touch devices and the Nintendo Wii gaming console, according to an industry executive familiar with Netflix’s plans. (Netflix wouldn’t confirm the info, with a rep saying it declines to comment on “rumors or speculation.”)

Netflix Video Streaming Coming to iPhone

The iPhone and iPod Touch do offer some video streaming abilities with YouTube over Wi-Fi and the cell data network, along with apps on the AppStore such as the Slingplayer Mobile which allows you to stream via Wi-Fi only. The report notes that the same restriction is likely for any Netflix streaming on the iPhone.

No official word on when/if this feature will be available or in which form it’ll arrive on ie: AppStore application or specialized web application. Stay tuned!

NoWhereElse.fr originally posted these questionable pre-WWDC photo of what could be the iPhone announced on Monday. The photos appear it will have a front-facing camera, which will fulfill many iPhone user’s wishlist.

With all the reports about the iPhone pushing video as a killer feature, it’s very likely Apple could introduce video-chat to the iPhone. But, before you start screaming out with joy, keep in mind that apparently no semi-credible source has suggested the new iPhone will pack a front-facing camera. It’s mostly been a common theme among these widely-circulated mockups. Some have even mocked up what a making a video phone call might look like. Imagine how high Apple will set the bar if such a feature would be introduced on Monday, June 8th?

WWDC will be launching June 8th in San Fransisco and we’ll know exactly what will be in the new iPhone then. Meanwhile, cross your fingers and pray to the Tech Gods that Apple will have something extremely exciting planned for us. Stay tuned!
