Apple released iPhone OS 3.1.3 recently to improve and fix a few issues with iPhone OS 3.1.2 and the iPhone Dev Team recently released their updated redsn0w software to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 but an unofficial feature of Redsn0w 0.9.2 is the ability to also jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3. That said, lets get jailbreaking that device of yours.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 in the same way you would jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0 with redsn0w 0.9.2.

Please follow these instructions clearly and you’ll be a-o-k. Now, before we begin you may notice that we use the iPhone OS 3.1.2 IPSW to jailbreak our iPhone OS 3.1.3 device, this is no mistake. When you get asked to select the iPhone firmware you have installed then choose the iPhone OS 3.1.2 IPSW. Please make sure you have updated your device to 3.1.3 by either updating officially via iTunes or restoring via iTunes. Keep in mind that restoring your iPhone will erase your iPhone’s content. In this tutorial we use Redsn0w version 0.9.2

Note: We are not responsible if your device blows up in the middle of the jailbreak process or if your device doesn’t turn on after using this. Use, strictly, at your own risk!

  1. First is first, download redsn0w 0.9.2 here (for Windows) or here (for Mac OS X)
  2. Second, Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 (to Jailbreak 3.1.3) or whatever firmware you’ll be using to jailbreak – here
  3. (more…)

If you’re freaked out about getting attacking by the ikee (otherwise known as ike_x) iPhone worm and want to change your SSH password on your iPhone then look no further! We’ll show you how to change it easily.

Note: This is only for jailbroken iPhone’s with OpenSSH installed and MobileTerminal installed
Note 2: We are not responsible if your iPhone blows up during this process or if you mess up and forget your password! Use at your own risk!

  1. Get your jailbroken iPhone and open MobileTerminal (If you don’t have it already, get it from Cydia)
  2. In MobileTerminal, type in: su root
  3. It’ll ask you for a password, type in: alpine
  4. To make the screen a bit cleaner, type in: cd
  5. Now, to change your password, type in: passwd
  6. Enter the password you desire (You will not see the characters in the screen as you type them for security reasons)
  7. Enter the password you entered once more
    • You’re essentially done, if you want to change the password for the mobile space on the iPhone, continue reading… If not, close MobileTerminal and pat yourself on the back.
  8. If you’re going to change the password for the Mobile user, type in: passwd mobile
  9. Enter the password you desire (You will not see the characters in the screen as you type them for security reasons)
  10. Enter the password you entered once more
  11. All done! You are now secure! You may close MobileTerminal

Apple released iPhone OS 3.0.1 to fix a serious SMS vulnerability in the iPhone OS where your iPhone can be completely taken over by receiving a maliciously crafted SMS message.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0.1 in the same way you would jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0 with redsn0w.

Please follow these instructions clearly and you’ll be a-o-k. Now, before we begin you may notice that we use the iPhone OS 3.0 IPSW to jailbreak our iPhone OS 3.0.1 device, this is no mistake. When you get asked to select the iPhone firmware you have installed then choose the iPhone OS 3.0 IPSW. Please make sure you have updated your device to 3.0.1 by either updating officially via iTunes or restoring via iTunes. Keep in mind that restoring your iPhone will erase your iPhone’s content. Also, please don’t mind the screenshots saying redsn0w version 0.72 – Use the latest redsn0w version, it’ll be the same as the screenshots below.

Note: We are not responsible if your device blows up in the middle of the jailbreak process (it wont) or if your device doesn’t turn on after using this. Use, strictly, at your own risk!

  1. First is first, download redsn0w here (for Windows) or here (for Mac OS X)
  2. Second, Download iPhone OS 3.0 or whatever firmware you’ll be using to jailbreak – here
  3. (more…)

Can’t wait for the iPhone Dev Team to update their tools for the iPhone 3GS? Well, George Hotz (aka Geohot) has released a very simple application called purplera1n to jailbreak your iPhone 3G S! Both Mac OS X and the Windows application have very similar interfaces so this tutorial will work for both operating systems (Windows is being used in this tutorial). Before we begin, some important notes worth mentioning:

  • This one is only for iPhone 3GS users. iPhone and iPhone 3G users use this tutorial
  • Make sure you’re running firmware 3.0 (If you’re not sure then you most likely do have iPhone OS 3.0)
  • Jailbreak apps like WinterBoard, VOiPOver3G etc don’t seem to be working on iPhone 3GS, so you might have to wait for the developers to release updated version of the jailbreak apps
  • Use at your own risk. Please pre-read before attempting anything so you know what you’re getting yourself into ahead of time.
    Lets begin:

  1. Download purplera1n HERE – for Mac OS X or HERE – for Windows
  2. Once you have it downloaded, double click the .exe that you downloaded (if on Windows). If on Mac OS X double click the .zip and it should unzip and then double click the purplera1n.app icon to launch the application.
  3. (more…)
