iTunes 9: Font Text is incoherent or appears in a different language

Symptoms

You may notice that when you connect to the iTunes Store, some text may appear incoherent or in a different language:

Products Affected

iTunes Store, iTunes 9, iTunes 9 for Windows, iTunes 9 for Mac
Resolution

To resolve this issue in Windows:

   1. Update to the latest version of iTunes by choosing Help > Check for Updates.
   2. Search your fonts folder (C:\Windows\Fonts) for third-party fonts.
   3. Locate all third-party fonts by sorting the view order by Last Modified to see which fonts have been installed since your operating system was installed. All fonts installed after your operating system was installed are third-party fonts.
   4. Prevent all third-party fonts from loading by moving them to a new location, such as another folder on your hard drive. Note: To learn how to remove a font in Windows, or return to the default fonts that Windows ships with, see How to install or remove a font in Windows.
   5. Restart your computer after changing the contents of the font directory.

To resolve this issue on a Mac:

   1. Update to the latest version of iTunes by choosing iTunes > Check for Updates.
   2. Search your fonts folder (/Library/Fonts and ~/Library/Fonts) for third-party fonts.
   3. Locate all third-party fonts by sorting the view order by date to see which fonts have been installed since your operating system was installed. All fonts installed after your operating system was installed are third-party fonts.
   4. Prevent all third-party fonts from loading by moving them to a new location, such as another folder on your hard drive. Note: You can use the Font Book application to remove or manage your Fonts. To learn more, see Mac 101: Font Book.
         1. Open Font Book.
         2. Select the fonts or font family you want to turn off in the Font column, or select an entire collection in the collection column.
         3. From the Edit menu, choose the appropriate Disable command to disable the font family or collection.
   5. Restart your Mac after changing the contents of the font directory.
