Because I know you like repeating yourself...
I apologize ahead of time! I'm a total N00b but I've been searching through the forums trying to find my answer and I'm still not clear on what to do. So, I have a currently unlocked (T-Mobile) and jailbroken 2G phone currently running 2.2.1 that I need to update to the latest version.
Is it correct to assume that I install the update through itunes (i.e. click "upgrade to 3.1.2") and then use Blackra1n to re-jailbreak/unlock it? Or will installing the update using itunes lock up my phone?
Does Blackra1n only jailbreak it? Will I need to use another program to unlock it?
I really just need step by step instructions or a tutorial. Any info would be much appreciated! or a link to a previous thread or tutorial would be great too.

upgrading to 3.1.2 will lock your phone, fortunatly when you run blackra1n it will give you an option for blacksn0w the 3.1.2 unlock.. all you need is wifi

Crap. well, I knew I would eff this up somehow. I updated through itunes, then used blackra1n. All was going smoothly until it said "wait for reboot" now it is stuck on the emergency screen and when I connect it to itunes it says "The sim card does not seem to be supported" and doesn't even give me any options for restoring or otherwise. What now?!

remove the sim card til everything is done, and blackra1n should have hacktivated your phone...
