Hello, I have an iPhone (got it last Xmas). In order to get the company I work for to pay for the service, it was necessary for them to issue me a regular cell phone with AT&T service, take the SIM from it and put it in the iPhone. Also it was necessary to run v 1.0.2. (And, unfortunately my company is a Windows shop).
So now we have 2.0 which allows for a lot of cool stuff (like Pandora). Is there a person/service out there who can get me to 2.0 without turning the phone into a brick. I'd be happy to pay for the help.

So you have a 1st generation iPhone (2G)?
And you want it updated to 2.0?
You can do it yourself *very* easily with iTunes. If all you want is the Pandora radio application, you wouldn't even need to jailbreak your phone.
Just update iTunes, plug in your phone, and update it.
Unless of course you already have it jailbroken at 1.0.2 for your carrier, etc.

I was told that would lock my phone up?

Is your phone jailbroken?

As you may have guessed I'm not to iPhone savy. I'm not sure what jailbroken means

Is your iphone hacked? or is it stock? Going to assume you didn't have it hacked.
And you say your carrier is AT&T, but the SIM card came from another AT&T phone?
Not sure how that works.
If you say you are currently running 1.0.2 (which is ancient) you could probably find or back up your IPSW, so in case something goes wrong in updating, you can always revert back to what you currently have.
Fully update iTunes, then plugin your iPhone and do a full backup, and then try updating.
Again, not 100%. Hopefully someone else can confirm or clarify.

It's hacked which is why I believe I can't do the vanilla upgrade from Apple. I'm looking for assistance on guiding me to V2 from my current state

Your carrier is AT&T though correct?
But the SIM is from another AT&T phone?

Yes AT&T is the carrier and the SIM is from a razor

do u know what dfu mode is?
-turn off your iphone
-connect it to your comp, the iphone may start again this time hold down the power and home button at the same time and the iphone should go off in a few sec let go of all the buttons
-now hold the power and home button again for 10-12 sec depending on your count
-after those 10-12 sec let go of the power button, hold on to the home button
-after a few secs you will hear a noise on your pc like something has been plugged in. the screen on the iphone should be black now(at this point itunes will start and say iphone found in restore mode)
-there you go your in dfu mode...![]()
thats hoe u put your iphone into dfu mode once there and itunes has picked up the iphone just click the restore button to restore the iphone to an original FW if you don't want the original FW you could restore the iphone to a custom FW

I put the phone in to DFU mode as instructed.
For awhile iTunes said it was downloading iphone software
Now it says "Verifying iPhone Software"
How long does that take? It's been a while
The phone has a triangle with exclamation point and says Please Connect to iTunes
I believe I am connected to iTunes as it continues to run "Verifying iPhone Software"

Ok Son of Satan 666, have I made a deal with the devil?![]()
I'm beginning to worry.
I am attempting to follow the steps in
http://www.iphone-hacks.com/forums/view … hp?id=1392
I have downloaded the 3 files and unzipped the two which were zipped
I've started the app with the pineapple icon
When I click on Browse ipsw there is no file with the ipsw extension
What do I do now?
Offline
Don't double post. ![]()
And the ipsw for pwnagetool was most likely a .tbz or something similar. DO NOT UNARCHIVE. Thats proly why theres no file.
Offline
No files with a tbz extension either
By unarchive I assume you meant unzip. The app only looks for ipsw files.
Thanks:)

When you click browse for ipsw, you have to find where you saved it too.
If that doesn't work, try re downloading.

I downloaded the requisite files to a folder. Next I unzipped the two files into the same folder. That did not yield the specified file in that folder or any of its subfolders. I also repeated the process including the initial download with the same result.

try download directly for itunes then let pwnage tool to search if you still dont get it go to libery > itunes > iphone restore software... it should be there
wait a min are you on a pc or mac?
for pc you have to use quickpwn tool and for mac its pwnage tool....![]()
Offline
OK so off to get the quickpwn
Do I still need the other 2 downloads?
Offline
i don't really get what these other two files are but all you need is quickpwn and FW 2.0 then get FW 2.0.2 as its a bug fix for 2.0 (you have to make custom FW) thats all.......![]()
good luck...![]()
