It didn’t take long for PwnageTool 2.0 to become YouTube’s star of the day with all kind of videos being released of people hacking their EDGE iPhone 2.0’s and iPhone 3G. Here is the most popular of the videos so far:
Comments (0)There have been many reports of errors abound for the iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool 2.0. Jailbreaking and Unlocking EDGE iPhones running 2.0 seems to be working quite well for most, but jailbreaking the iPhone 3G seems to be the largest cause of complaints.
Some report the application not even launching properly but most are having problems with either iTunes installing the new firmware or PwnageTool’s creation of the firmware file. The team has been making updates to their blog. We will make sure to keep you up to date with what is going on. Hopefully these problems will get sorted out quickly.
Comments (6)It’s been released early! The iPhone Dev Team’s PwnageTool 2.0 is out! We’ve got it in our iPhone Downloads section under iPhone Utilities or simply click here to download it.
We are testing it out on both the iPhone EDGE & iPhone 3G and will have a full review our Pwning fun soon.

Comments (15)We’ll be releasing a more official announcement soon, but we wanted to get the tool out there. We sincerely hope you enjoy using it as much as we enjoyed making it :)
Update: Just to clear up some confusion over what this actually does: yes, it jailbreaks and unlocks older iPhones, and jailbreaks iPhone 3Gs and iPod Touches. We only support the 2.0 firmwares.
Update: If you get Error 1600 from iTunes, try: mkdir “~/Library/iTunes/Device Support” ; if that directory already exists, remove any files in it. Then re-run PwnageTool.
Well the iPhone Dev Team has left another clue as to the release date of PwnageTool 2.0. This one is pretty easy to understand though:
We love Sundays. We think you will too.
Looks like we can expect to download PwnageTool 2.0 tomorrow Sunday July 20th.
Comments (2)This recent post was made on the iPhone Dev Team’s blog:
Boldog Születésnapot!
Boldog Születésnapot pytey! Most nem tudunk neked egy letölthető születésnapi ajandékot adni, de nagyon hamar az is megérkezik!
What language is that written in? What the hell does it mean? The language is Hungarian and some free online translation services will give you some pretty useless translations:
Happy birthday pytey! This time not tudunk for you one letölthető birthday ajandékot adni , but very soon the also fetch!
Someone posted in the comments on the blog that it translates as the the following:
Happy Birthday guys! Very Very soon we will have for you a downloadable birthday present for you, so hold on tight!
Luckily I happen to have a friend who knows some Hungarian and he confirmed the above translation with his own version:
Happy birthday right now i cant give you a download for your present, but it will get there soon
There we have it another wonderful coming soon message. Anymore coming soon messages and I think I’ll cry.
Comments (1)If you’re on firmware 2.0 and have been looking for a way to access your PC or Mac via a VNC server then look no further! Mocha VNC Lite a free, thats right, a free application in the App Store in firmware 2.0 or iTunes gives you the ability to access your PC or Mac just like you were sitting right in front of your computer — just on a smaller screen.
Developer description:
Mocha VNC provides access to a VNC Server. Using your iPhone, you can connect to a Windows PC or Mac OS X and see the files, programs, and resources exactly as you would if you were sitting at your desk, just on a smaller screen.

If you’re more interested in the full version than in the lite version (which is free) then you might have to wait some time, it’s getting reviewed by Apple to be put in the App Store. The full version will be $5.99 USD

Comments (6)The iPhone Dev Team has released information in regards to which iPhone and iPod devices will work with the certain features of the upcoming PwnageTool 2.0. Unfortunately unlocking the iPhone 3G will not be supported in the first release. This functionality will be released in a future update.
Comments (8)So, currently (when released) PwnageTool 2.0 will support:-
iPhone (1st Gen) with 2.0 - Activated, Unlocked & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).
iPod Touch with 2.0 - Activated & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).
iPhone (3G) with 2.0 - Activated, Jailbroken (with support for third party applications).
We’ve made some progress on the baseband unlock of the 3G device, but at this point PwnageTool will not support 3G unlocking or BootNeuter on the 3G device. It is, of course supported on the first generation device with 2.0. We’ll push out an update with 3G support if and when it is completed.
Don’t call them lazy! They are still hard at work flattening out all the bugs for the release of the upcoming iPhone utility labeled ‘Pwnage’. Here is the latest word from the iPhone Dev Team about what they’ve been up to and what we are all waiting for:
Comments (7)Some additional information….
We’ve read some points in the comments that we would like to formally reply to, and of course we like to keep you updated with our progress and keep you “in the loop”.
The iPhone 3G came out on Friday the 11th of July (a little over 5 days ago).
A few new videos have surfaced today. First we have the video of an unlocked iPhone 3G, this isn’t the software unlock that we’re all anxiously awaiting. It requires the use of a SIM adapter much like the Hyper-card or Turbo SIM methods used on the first generation iPhone.
Second up we’ve got another video released by the iPhone Dev Team showing a fully jailbroken iPhone 3G.
Comments (7)We’ve been getting quite a bit of mail about this lately, most of you probably didn’t jump the gun and install iTunes 7.7 but some of you did.
So you didn’t listen to our warnings about upgrading your lowly 2G/EDGE iPhone to v2.0 firmware and installing iTunes 7.7, now your phone is relocked and you have a really expensive iPod touch because you can’t make any phone calls.
Well everything you require to get your phone back is already available right here from our iPhone downloads section. Here is what you need:
First you’ll need to uninstall iTunes 7.7 then install iTunes 7.6.2 which we have for you here: Windows / Mac
You shouldn’t need to download it serpately but here is our link to iPhone Firmware v1.1.4
All you need to do is use iTunes to perform a full recovery and it will nicely downgrade your iPhone for you. Just turn off the phone plug it into your computer then press and hold both the power and home buttons for 10 sec, it will beep you can let go of the power but keep holding the home button down until iTunes has discovered the phone in restore mode.
Update: if you are having problems with a newer iPhone you may need to downgrade the baseband firmware. You can use a modded version of ZiPhone by kIREmk to achieve this available here: Windows / Mac
