Great news! Apple has increased the download cap on iPhone’s AppStore and iTunes Store. It used to be 10MB but has been increased the limit to 20MB – What does this mean? It means those applications you’ve tried to download on-the-go only to find out you cannot because of the 10MB download cap, now, you can as long as the application is under 20MB.

iPhone Download Cap Limit

The download cap only affects users when using AT&T’s EDGE or 3G network, it does not affect users using Wi-Fi.

Today, Apple announced that users have now downloaded over three billion iPhone and iPod touch applications from AppStore since its July 2008 launch.

“Three billion applications downloaded in less than 18 months — this is like nothing we’ve ever seen before,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “The revolutionary App Store offers iPhone and iPod touch users an experience unlike anything else available on other mobile devices, and we see no signs of the competition catching up anytime soon.”

The AppStore reached 2 billion downloads just over 3 months ago. The new milestone represents continued acceleration of growth for the store as Apple’s handheld devices continue to attract significant numbers of customers. The App Store continues to be available to customers in 77 countries, offering applications in 20 categories.

Apple is rolling out a new look to their App Store individual app pages tonight which brings it in line with the rest of the iTunes 9 design that was revealed a few months ago. The changes will be of primary interest to App Store developers who rely on the App Store pages to drive sales.

Apple AppStore New Look

Changes that may impact developers include:

  • Much larger icon is shown
  • Multiple screenshots are more obvious to viewer
  • App description is truncated to the first 2 lines by default. While users can expand to see the rest of the description, many will likely not. This places much more importance on the first two lines of the App’s description
  • More apps by the same developer are listed automatically

Overall, there seems to be a bigger focus on the icon/screenshots on first glance of the page. By now, all pages in the AppStore should be updated with the new look.

“The App Store is like nothing the industry has ever seen before in both scale and quality,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “With 1.5 billion apps downloaded, it is going to be very hard for others to catch up.”

The AppStore passed 1 billion application downloads around three weeks ago. Today’s announcement demonstrates continued acceleration in the download rate.

Calling all iPhone developers developing for the AppStore, are you tired of them dirty pirates stealing your work? Are you tired of loosing a big chunk of money because of pirates? Say no more! RipDev comes to the rescue with Kali Anti-Piracy, it’s a service for developers that protects their applications from being pirated!

Kali Anti-Piracy Pricing Click image to enlarge

With Kali Anti-Piracy your application is being wrapped in the additional layer of protection engineered by experts in Mac OS X and iPhone OS architectures, giving potential hackers much harder time in achieving the precious “crack”. Moreover, we are constantly monitoring the current trends and news in the underground hacker communities to make sure Kali AP stays on top of the “competition”.

Compliance with the iPhone SDK

Kali Anti-Piracy uses only documented and allowed calls, therefore, it is fully compliant with the Apple iPhone SDK. Products protected with Kali AP are passing the Apple approval process and are currently successfully selling in the AppStore.

Kali Anti-Piracy isn’t free – it would be bad ass if it were – Look at the image above

Pricing Example:

Royalty fee is calculated based on the developer’s cut (70%) after Apple Inc commission (30%). Let’s take a look at how the royalty payment is
calculated by running a few examples.

  • You have a $0.99 product that was sold 2500 times in the past quarter. Your cut will be (2500 * $0.99 * 0.7) = $1,732.50. Based on the volume tiers
above, you are eligible for the discounted 4% royalty rate, which results in ($1,732.50 * 0.04) = $69.30 payable to Ripdev.
  • You have a $4.99 product that was sold 13000 times in the past quarter. Your cut will be (13000 * $4.99 * 0.7) = $45,409. Based on the volume tiers
above, you are eligible for the discounted 3% rate, which results in ($45,409 * 0.03) = $1,362.27 payable to Ripdev.

Update: These browsers are WebKit-Based. We probably won’t be seeing Opera or Firefox in the AppStore any time soon. But we may see Chrome, a webkit-based desktop browser by Google, in the AppStore one day. Apple is taking baby steps at the moment, and that’s just fine.

Very exciting news, Apple has started to allow 3rd-party web browsers into the AppStore for use on iPhone or iPod Touch. Now you can drop that always-crashing Safari web browser that comes with every iPhone and iPod Touch and perhaps use a better, faster, stabler web browser. This means fabulous, world-famous browsers such as Firefox and Opera may one day be on your iPhone!

Released Web Browsers so far:

Edge Browser – Free - No loss of screen real estate to the address or navigation bars

Incognito – $1.99USD - Now you can browse without leaving a history of any kind.

WebMate: Tabbed Browser – $0.99USD - Web Mate simplifies browsing by queuing up all the links you click on, then allowing you to view them one by one when you’re ready.

Shaking Web – $1.99USD - adds a sophisticated algorithm to compensate for small hand shaking to allow for easier reading.

Apple has not made an official announcement but finally Apple has lightened up and allowed 3rd-party web browsers to be used on the iPhone!
