Rumors have been flying around the internet lately about Apple’s “Let’s Rock” event scheduled for 10AM PST in San Francisco tomorrow. The iPhone 2.1 release rumor can be nailed down to this ArsTechnica article which claims to have a good source and that Apple will be releasing iPhone 2.1 tomorrow with unexpected new features that were left out of beta releases.

Some people are speculating that it will be a solution the much complained about lack of Copy and Paste, others are saying it will be GPS speed and direction functionality. Let’s hope it’s both!

No matter what the new features may be if you have an unlocked or jailbroken iPhone or iPhone 3G DO NOT UPGRADE tomorrow. Wait until we hear what the iPhone Dev Team and others have to say about the compatibility of their software with the new firmware version. It is almost guaranteed they will need to update their software tools to adapt for the new iPhone 2.1.

What do you think the new features will be in iPhone 2.1? Leave a comment with your predictions.

While Apple may have brought the PDA market into the 21st century it seems to have forgotten to bring along some of the staples for user interfaces that we have all come to expect. Copy and Paste has been around in the computer world since 1974 and has been essential ever since, yet Apple felt for some ungodly reason that it wasn’t necessary for the iPhone? After much complaining from it’s users Apple finally caved and announced they would be implementing copy and paste in future implementations of the iPhone System Software, however it is not a priority and they are in no big hurry to get it done.

In steps OpenClip.org a open-source, non-profit organization dedicated to bringing a 100% Apple iPhone SDK compliant cross App framework for implementing copy and paste functionality as an interim solution until Apple’s copy and paste is implemented. All that is required now is for App developers to implement OpenClip within their Apps!
