iPhone Flash Player Just Waiting For Apple

Posted by Alias420

Adobe Systems’ Sr. Director of Engineering, Paul Betlem was quoted for the first time talking about Flash on the iPhone at this year’s Flash On The Beach conference in Brighton, U.K.

My team is working on Flash on the iPhone, but it’s a closed platform.

It was hinted at that the hold up was in Apple’s court now and as soon as Apple gives the go ahead a Flash player for the iPhone could be released quite rapidly. Rumors are still swirling that the reason behind the hold up is that Flash just simply can’t work properly without some compromises in the iPhone SDK.

Is this isn’t the first time Adobe executives have talked openly about working on bringing Flash to the iPhone. (more…)

Flash Ported To The iPhone

Posted by Alias420

While it isn’t the flash browser plug-in for the iPhone we’ve all been waiting for Adobe to release, it is still a big step in the right direction. French hacker Joos has successfully ported Flash Lite as an iPhone App.

This port uses a framework that sits atop of eyeGT, a graphic renderer capable of handling vector graphics and bitmaps. eyeGT allows definition of buttons, animations, hierarchical containers, color and special effects. Progress Being Made For Flash Support On The iPhone

Posted by Alias420

Adobe claims to have a working version of their Flash player for the iPhone development emulator. Remember this Flash player is only for the “iPhone Emulator” which means it’s running on a computer, they recognize more work will be required to ensure functionality on the iPhone device itself.

During Adobe’s Qtr End 5/30/08 Earnings Call which took place on June 16, 2008 5:00 pm ET. Shantanu Narayen Adobe’s President and Chief Executive Officer was quoted answering the question; “…just to follow-up was on the Apple iPhone 3G — any update on Flash support within that device?”

With respect to the iPhone, we are working on it. We have a version that’s working on the emulation. This is still on the computer and you know, we have to continue to move it from a test environment onto the device and continue to make it work. So we are pleased with the internal progress that we’ve made to date.
