For any of you that use Installer instead of Cydia or for any of you who care about Installer, then, you may like to know that RipDev have released Installer 4.0.
From RipDev’s blog:

we have added Greek, Russian and Ukranian localizations, redone the interface for speed, fixed a bunch of bugs and made it so it can bear the tag “4.0″. And yes, we’re proud of what we have done — largely with your feedback.

So, that’s it. If you’d like, go open up the dusty Installer app on your iPhone or iPod Touch and update.

Rip Dev has released beta 6 of the iPhone Installer 4.0 app. You will find this latest version available under the ‘Updates’ category from within which ever version of the beta you are currently using. If you don’t have it installed you can use the latest versions of PwnageTool for Mac or WinPwn for Windows. Either of these tools should install both Cydia and Installer by default.

What’s New in Installer 4.0 Beta 6:

  • Search. It searches among packages from the repositories you have added, and, if you let it sit for 5 seconds, will query our server and return packages that are available from repositories you don’t have added (that we know about) with an option to automatically add and install. Repository owners, upgrade to the latest version of the repo code (below) to have your repository added to the search engine.
  • Uninstall now works correctly.
  • Fixed a lot of locking issues especially with custom HTML info pages.
  • Updated the Categories and Tasks icons so they are less ugly.
  • Fixed a bug with multiple copies of Installer appearing in Installed Packages under some circumstances.
  • Installer will now correctly check and prompt for an update of itself.

RipDev has released his latest beta 5 update for Installer 4.0. To upgrade open Installer on your iPhone and go to the ‘Updates’ section. Remember this program is beta and is still being actively worked on. Early reports are, that not all the kinks have been worked out but much progress has been made.

Here’s what’s new:

  • Many visual enhancements and fixes in regards to source and packages display.
  • Fixed an issue with failing installs with dependencies under some circumstances.
  • Fixed a bug causing package information to be displayed incorrectly (size 0 bytes) on the first access, or when the custom information HTML page (such as packages from Big Boss’ repository) was not displayed.
  • When updating a package, and one of its dependencies also has an update available, the dependency will be updated as well.
  • The package icons will only be downloaded when on the Wi-Fi to help you save on bandwidth.
  • The repositories are being refreshed upon Installer.app launch so you always stay on the bleeding edge with the updates. This is exeperimental behavior and we’re not yet sure it will make it to the final release.
  • Fixed a script command Confirm that was returning invalid button index for the “OK” button.
  • Lots and lots of both cosmetic and internal application core fixes that improve the overall performance, presentation and stability of the application.

Update: Well the mystery was revealed and it wasn’t with the release of PwnageTool. ‘It is sparkling!’ refers to PwnageTool 2.0.2 being uploaded to the Sparkle Update server. However right before launch a show stopping bug was found. The Dev team has finished working for today and will resume squashing this bug after some well deserved sleep.

They are at it again with their latest message posted this afternoon ‘It is sparkling!’. What is sparkling? Is it the new PwnageTool 2.0.2 with Installer 4.0 that we are all waiting for? Is it the champaign in their glasses? I’m sure all will be revealed to us soon enough.

The Dev Team has a history of leaving quirky little riddles in the build up to their releases here are some of their past messages with explanations from the author:

Also some people have asked about the cryptic posts that we made during the run up to the release of PwnageTool 2.0, here are the explanations.

PwnageTool Pwned IconTwo heavy hitter iPhone hacking tools are due out very soon. iPhone Dev Team’s latest point release of PwnageTool 2.0.2 was held off today, due to RipDev’s news that he is releasing the official beta version of Installer 4.0. Installer 4.0 Beta will now be included in PwnageTool 2.0.2. You may recall Installer 4.0 Beta leaked earlier this week. It will be interesting to see the differences between the leaked beta and the official beta versions. The Dev Team has always made sure never to give an exact release date, insuring they don’t feel pressure to release something before it’s ready and in special cases like this, when major functionality can be added last second. They have however promised it will be very soon!

We’ve just had word that our friends at RiPDev almost have Installer 4 (Beta) ready for public beta release, with that awesome news we’ve decided to include it in the PwnageTool 2.0.2 release, we are waiting for the software from them and we need to quickly test and add a small couple of changes that go alongside Installer.

…Please don’t wait up for us, PwnageTool 2.0.1 with shiny new stuff is coming very soon.

As always as soon as PwnageTool 2.0.2 and Installer 4.0 Beta are released we will have them for download in our iPhone Downloads section and will be able to discuss any issues in our iPhone Forums

Digg it!

With great excitement we can report that it works! This beta copy of Installer 4.0 is now available in our iPhone Downloads under 3rd party apps or you can use this direct link: Download Installer 4.0 Beta

After you’ve put uploaded Installer 4.0 to your iPhone 2.0 remeber to:

Code:
chmod -R 777 "/Applications/Installer.app"
- Hit Enter
Code:
chmod a+srx "/Applications/Installer.app/Installer"
- Hit Enter

Have fun!

Did Slavikus spill the beans? Luckily a screenshot was grabbed before a comment was removed on a Russian iPhone blog where one of the Installer.app crew claimed the much anticipated Installer 4.0 is due to be released tomorrow August 2nd 2008. Right now this is a total rumour and hasn’t been confirmed but we will make sure to keep you updated the second we find out.

Easier than chicken pot pie is an extremely simple method to jailbreak and get Installer.app on your 1.1.1 iPhone, for real…

A number of hackers — metasploit, rezn, dinopio, drudge, kroo, pumpkin, davidc, dunham, and NerveGas — have created and launched jailbreakme.com. While the Safari exploit remains unpatched, we’ll remain with a one-step solution to fully unleash the iPhone in all its glory. This works on the iPod Touch also.

The only prerequisite is an activated phone with working Wi-Fi; I typically fake activation using iNdependence. This isn’t necessary for iPod Touch owners.

AppSnapp feature list:

  1. Jailbreaks iPhone/iPod Touch on 1.1.1
  2. Patches Springboard to load third party apps
  3. Activates non-AT&T iPhones automatically, while leaving already activated phones alone
  4. Fixes YouTube on non-AT&T iPhones automatically, while leaving already activated phones alone
  5. Installs Installer.app v3.0b5 on the iPhone/iPod Touch
  6. Fixes Apple’s TIFF bug, making your device MORE secure than it was without AppSnapp!

When you’re ready, browse to jailbreakme.com (via Mobile Safari) and follow the on screen instructions. Have fun!

Thanks for the tip dlr.

Now that you most likely have yourself a fully hacked/unlocked iPhone, this is what you need to install — Nullriver’s AppTapp GUI Installer. It’s the gateway to all iPhone homebrew and various other 3rd party goodies; you won’t be disappointed. Easily install SSH, countless games, apps, wallpapers, ringtones, iPhone compiled binaries, you name it — directly from the iPhone itself! The list continues to grow each and every day.

Download and run the package below which corresponds to your operating system. Once Installer is ready on the iPhone, install “Community Sources.” The package list will refresh & your jaw will drop hitting the touch screen; wipe away your slobber and begin tappin’ it like a cheap slutty escort — it’s iPhone apps / games galore in this maa!

I recommend using “Installer” over a WiFi spot, otherwise it’ll rack up a hefty EDGE Internet bill. Then sadly you’ll be left with little or no money for escorts. And trust me, they dig a dude with an iPhone.

Download:
AppTapp Installer v0.9 (for Windows)
AppTapp Installer v3.1 (for Mac)
