Apple released iTunes 9! Man, this is one awesome update, at least for me it is. iTunes 9 includes a ton of new features and improvements to existing features.

“iTunes 9 is a great iTunes release, with innovative features that make using iTunes better than ever and iTunes content richer than ever,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iTunes LP, for example, lets artists share more of their creativity with fans and gives music lovers the feeling of being immersed in an entire album with art, lyrics, liner notes, photos and videos.”

Features include:

  • iPhone App Organization: Instead of rearranging your Apps on your iPhone do it from iTunes! Back in February we reported a great iPhone App Organization concept and it seems it took Apple a great deal of time but finally implemented this awesome feature.
  • Genius Mixes: This new feature searches your iTunes library, finds songs that go great together, and creates multiple mixes you’ll love. All automatically.
  • Home Sharing: With Home Sharing, you can browse the iTunes libraries of up to five authorized computers in your house, import what you like, and automatically add new purchases made on any of the computers to your own library.

In Addition, the iTunes Store has been redesigned to allow easier browsing and now offers iTunes LPs — albums with additional content such as lyrics, photos, liner notes, and more. Movies also get a bump from extra content through ‘iTunes Extras’ that include additional features, graphical chapter selection, and more. Finally, Apple is now offering 30,000 pre-cut ringtones from major music labels, priced at $1.29 each.

Boy Genius Report received a tip from what they claim to be a pretty good reliable source suggesting that iTunes 9 will have several new features. The rumored features include support for Blu-ray media and visual organization of iPhone and iPod touch applications within iTunes, as well as some form of social networking/media integration. I’m sure many people are really hoping for Twitter integration.

One of the new additions to iTunes is said to include Blu-ray support which lines up nicely with a recent Apple Insider report about Apple integrating Blu-ray into their new iMac line-up. Something else that will most likely make a bunch of people happy is that we’ve been told iTunes 9 will finally include the ability to visually organize and arrange your iPhone and iPod touch applications. Something that wasn’t so clearly described was some kind of Twitter/Facebook/Last.fm integration. Maybe broadcasting what song you’re playing to your friends?

Personally, I would very much love integrated Last.fm scrobbling. No timeframe for iTunes 9 was suggested by BGR’s source, however, Apple holds special events in September to update its iPod line and to update iTunes, so it’s reasonable to speculate that iTunes 9 may be unveiled at that time. Stay tuned for updates!

Blue Screen Of Death BSOD

Many Microsoft Windows Vista users for both 32 and 64 bit versions have been experiencing problems with Apple’s new iTunes 8. What kind of problems? The worst kind, the infamous windows blue screen of death! In response to this Apple has quietly swapped the Windows version on their servers with a new iTunes 8 download file that should fix these bugs. They have also published a few workarounds that may help those still being affected.

If you were one of those who downloaded iTunes 8 right away and are having problems, try uninstalling it then downloading it again from Apple to reinstall. If that fails to work try these solutions from Apple’s Technical documents:

Solution 1:

* Disconnect your iPhone or iPod from Windows Vista.
* Uninstall iTunes and Apple Mobile Device Support
* For Classic View
* Choose Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.
* First select Apple Mobile Device Support, click Uninstall.
* Select iTunes, click Uninstall.
* For Control Panel Home View
* Choose Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.
* First select Apple Mobile Device Support, click Uninstall.
* Select iTunes and click Uninstall.
* Restart the computer.
* Re-download and install the updated iTunes 8 installer from www.apple.com/itunes/download.

Important: Do not use the iTunes8Setup or iTunes864Setup file you previously downloaded. The reason for this note is Apple wants users to download the re-release version of iTunes 8.
