Introducing a new software package for downgrading the boot loader, bypassing activation, performing a successful jailbreak, and finally SIM unlocking your iPhone on system software 1.1.4 — that is Aviegas’ iPlus 2.0b. Fully automatic and all that; Windows and Mac (Intel/PPC).

Leif has shared two tutorials — both for Windows and Mac OS X — those courtesy of hackthatphone.com. Enjoy!

Phew, it’s safe to update now. Zibri has released ZiPhone version 2.5.

Actually, perform a restore to 1.1.4 — don’t update. Nullriver’s Installer keeps a cache of installed apps; you will encounter problems upgrading straight to iPhone system version 1.1.4. So play it safe, do the restore — connect USB, hold the home button and sleep/power for a few seconds, click “Restore” in iTunes.

Get down. Kudos Zibri, and everyone else who made this possible.

Update: Hitting more frequent than quick pick lotto… ZiPhone v2.3 is out! Details in the README.

Update: 2.2 bug fix release… Grab it below.

Update: Another day, another ZiPhone release — version 2.1 comin’ in hot… Changes include:

  • corrected the “apple logo bug”
  • removed -v option; ZiPhone now uses verbose mode by default
  • added integrity check on zibri.dat
  • added 2 .BAT files for windows
  • updated README.txt
  • the Windows GUI and OS X versions were not updated; but will work so long as you don’t specify -v

Update: I should mention ZiPhone v2.0 repaired the iPhone mentioned in this post; the one unable to receive calls. Solid app, cheers.

Update: ZiPhone 2.0 is out now. Quoting Zibri, “…the command line version, you will find a new option ‘-b’ be very careful with that! I take no responsibility if you brick your phone! ZiPhone -b will downgrade bootloader from 4.6 to 3.9, flash 4.03.13_G baseband version and unlock it (in one shot!).”

Experiencing difficulties with previous activation, jailbreak, and unlock methods? No longer! Forget all that tedious nonsense and enter Zibri’s ZiPhone. For real, it doesn’t get any easier than this…

Bypass activation and jailbreak any iPhone OS version. Unlock whatever baseband on boot loader 3.9 and 4.6 — that means 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 OOTB (out-of-the-box) also work! Just connect your phone via USB and run the app. It’s mentioned ZiPhone will revive many “dead” basebands too; so if you messed up a previous attempt, this will likely solve that issue.

Both Windows and Mac versions available.

Kudos to everyone involved making this possible.

Update: To fix EDGE preferences and others which aren’t properly saved, add “http://sleepers.net/iphonerepo” to Installer.app sources. BigBoss has both “1.1.3 Prefs Fix” and “1.1.3 Mailfix” available. There are some other goodies too. Thanks Leif.

Update: Bizarre behaviour encountered: EDGE settings do not save and you’re eventually returned to the home screen. There is no audible preview when selecting a different ringtone. And the real kicker so far — cannot receive incoming calls — only outgoing seem to work. Still testing…

A little background info: starting fresh, used iNdependence to enter DFU mode, restored to 1.1.1 with modem firmware 04.01.13_G (already SIM unlocked). Bypassed activation, jail broke, and installed Installer.app using the *#301# trick. Downloaded and used the 1.1.3 Mac jailbreak package. Perhaps re-virginizing would be better… *Shrug*

Update: The Mac version is now available. I’m happy to confirm it 99% (?) working from my jail broken 1.1.1 iPhone. Despite receiving “Main script execution failed” during the Installer.app phase — it worked! My iPhone froze immediately after the error; be patient, I waited ~ 5 minutes and it eventually rebooted with 1.1.3. Best of all — it remained SIM unlocked.

Download, mount the disk image (jb113.dmg), and run “Run_This.” Follow the instructions. Find the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” under the System category when asked to use Installer.app.

I had a feeling we wouldn’t be waiting until February. So lets get started…

In order to successfully jailbreak 1.1.3, you must first be running an already jail broken 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 system version. The process is similar to the 1.1.2 jailbreak — prepare, patch, and soft-update. Currently the software is only available for Windows; Mac version coming soon.

Use the following at your own risk. We’re not responsible if you brick or render your iPhone/iPod Touch useless.

The steps:

  1. Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed.
  2. Plug in your phone via USB to your computer.
  3. Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition (ibrickr.exe in the archive).
  4. iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update.
  5. iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware (make sure to read everything thoroughly).
  6. iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet.
  7. When iBrickr finishes (should take about 10 minutes), it will tell you to go to Installer and install the “1.1.3 soft upgrade” package. Do that.
  8. When the installer finishes (this should take another 10-15 minutes), your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

Props to everyone involved with this jailbreak method — Nate True, the iPhone Dev & Elite Team, and all the others. More details following the source link.

Achieved by none other than the iPhone Dev and Elite team — the 1.1.3 jailbreak. Their method is not and will not be available until Apple releases the iPhone SDK in February.

The video clip shows Installer.app running on an iPhone with system software 1.1.3. Therefore, jailbroken.

The highly talented iPhone Dev Team — the crew responsible for this improved 1.1.2 jailbreak — have released a “better” method to aid in freeing your iPhone. Better than this one; that is. Although the procedure has been polished, it doesn’t necessarily rid the complication factor. You still require some technical know-how and patience. Personally, I recommend sticking with 1.1.1.

Easier than chicken pot pie is an extremely simple method to jailbreak and get Installer.app on your 1.1.1 iPhone, for real…

A number of hackers — metasploit, rezn, dinopio, drudge, kroo, pumpkin, davidc, dunham, and NerveGas — have created and launched jailbreakme.com. While the Safari exploit remains unpatched, we’ll remain with a one-step solution to fully unleash the iPhone in all its glory. This works on the iPod Touch also.

The only prerequisite is an activated phone with working Wi-Fi; I typically fake activation using iNdependence. This isn’t necessary for iPod Touch owners.

AppSnapp feature list:

  1. Jailbreaks iPhone/iPod Touch on 1.1.1
  2. Patches Springboard to load third party apps
  3. Activates non-AT&T iPhones automatically, while leaving already activated phones alone
  4. Fixes YouTube on non-AT&T iPhones automatically, while leaving already activated phones alone
  5. Installs Installer.app v3.0b5 on the iPhone/iPod Touch
  6. Fixes Apple’s TIFF bug, making your device MORE secure than it was without AppSnapp!

When you’re ready, browse to jailbreakme.com (via Mobile Safari) and follow the on screen instructions. Have fun!

Thanks for the tip dlr.

NerveGas, Pumpkin, Edgan, drudge, dinopio, and asap18 have released their method to jailbreak iPhone’s running system software 1.1.1.

I strongly encourage you read the included README carefully and thoroughly; as stated in the introduction, “Jailbreaking iPhone software v1.1.1 is an involved process, but can be accomplished with the documentation here. The following steps will be explained in-depth. Please read them thoroughly before proceeding.”

Good luck!

Mad props to the entire team.

Update: Browse to http://jailbreak.toc2rta.com on your iPhone 1.1.1 or iPod Touch and it will crash Safari… Only leaving you with full read+write access to the device’s file system! Don’t jump the gun though, I’d only recommend doing this if you have a good understanding of how all this stuff works. Niacin states a full tutorial and breakdown of the TIFF exploit will be available in the next day or so. Apple will more than likely patch said vulnerability in a future software update.

Still not available to the public; however, iPhone hackers Niacin & Dre have managed to combine the symlink hack with a newly discovered TIFF vulnerability found in Mobile Safari. When put into practice you’ll be granted full read+write access to the iPhone’s file system, and the iPod Touch for that matter. Engadget has confirmed this method to work, but there are a couple caveats…

  • Thus far the hack isn’t entirely without issues. We’re still trying to determine exactly what’s what, but we’ve lost read and write access unexpectedly. This may or may not be a problem with our machine or device, though, and not necessarily the hack.
  • We did not test this method on an iPhone, but technically there should be no difference in the effect. Side note: your v1.1.1 iPhone would, at this time, need to be activated to load the TIFF. (How else are you gonna load it?) This is supposedly being worked on.

Rest assure, once the kinks are worked out, we’ll have an easy do-it-yourself method to jailbreak any 1.1.1 iPhone. In the meantime, you know what to do, and it’s certainly not upgrading.
