Apple released iPhone OS 3.1.3 recently to improve and fix a few issues with iPhone OS 3.1.2 and the iPhone Dev Team recently released their updated redsn0w software to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 but an unofficial feature of Redsn0w 0.9.2 is the ability to also jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3. That said, lets get jailbreaking that device of yours.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.3 in the same way you would jailbreak iPhone OS 3.0 with redsn0w 0.9.2.

Please follow these instructions clearly and you’ll be a-o-k. Now, before we begin you may notice that we use the iPhone OS 3.1.2 IPSW to jailbreak our iPhone OS 3.1.3 device, this is no mistake. When you get asked to select the iPhone firmware you have installed then choose the iPhone OS 3.1.2 IPSW. Please make sure you have updated your device to 3.1.3 by either updating officially via iTunes or restoring via iTunes. Keep in mind that restoring your iPhone will erase your iPhone’s content. In this tutorial we use Redsn0w version 0.9.2

Note: We are not responsible if your device blows up in the middle of the jailbreak process or if your device doesn’t turn on after using this. Use, strictly, at your own risk!

  1. First is first, download redsn0w 0.9.2 here (for Windows) or here (for Mac OS X)
  2. Second, Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 (to Jailbreak 3.1.3) or whatever firmware you’ll be using to jailbreak – here
  3. (more…)

The good ol’ folks from the iPhone Dev Team have updated redsn0w after a long time without any updates.

iPhone Dev Team Redsn0w 0.9.2 update

A cross-platform jailbreaking, unlocking, and customizing tool for iPhones and iPod touches. Customizations include boot logos, recovery logos, and “verbose” boot. It’s a standalone program that doesn’t use iTunes (no custom IPSWs are involved).

iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w finally supports iPhone OS 3.1.2 but it’s still tether-only for late models such as the iPod Touch 2G if the serial number starts with “MC”, any iPod Touch 3G and iPhone 3GS.

The new version of Redsn0w also adds new features such as, Verbose boot, addition of custom Boot Logos, and bypassing jailbreak if your device is already jailbroken.

Yeah! iPhone Dev Team to the rescue, yet once again with the release of redsn0w version 0.8! This new version of redsn0w now works with the iPhone 3G S. Yep, so if you didn’t want to use purplera1n for whatever reason, then you can now use iPhone Dev Team’s Redsn0w!

From the Dev Team:

ultrasn0w unlockers — You all must remain particularly vigilant against upgrading your basebands, since doing so will kill the unlock (for most phones, there’s no going backwards in baseband version). Apple has gotten very serious with the latest baseband — they’ve removed 180 (!) commands in an effort to cut down their exposure to holes. So please always stay away from stock Apple IPSWs and instead use our tools as we release them. These tools let you update your firmware without updating your baseband.

If you’re a Linux user and had to use a Windows machine or a Mac machine to jailbreak your iPhone, then you may be very pleased to know that redsn0w is finally available for Linux!

Since Redsn0w version 0.8 has the same user interface as it’s previous version, the tutorial we posted a few days ago will be exactly the same for the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS aswell as iPod Touch’s.

And if you want to unlock using ultrasn0w, then read this tutorial

Download Redsn0w 0.8 from our iPhone Downloads section:
Redsn0w 0.8 for Windows
Redsn0w 0.8 for Mac OS X
Redsn0w 0.8 for Linux

On this post, we’ll show you how to jailbreak your iPhone/iPod Touch with redsn0w version 0.7.2 – This should be the same as windows on both iPhone and iPod Touch. In this case, we’re using Mac OS X. Please. we can not stress this enough, read through this post carefully before attempting anything with redsn0w.

Note: We are not responsible if your device blows up in the middle of the jailbreak process (not that it will) or if your device doesn’t turn on after using this. Use, strictly, at your own risk!

iPhone Dev Team has released an application that works similar to quickpwn and provides similar functionality. Redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking (iPhone 2G only) tool for the iPhone 2G (original iPhone), the iPhone 3G (but not the 3GS) and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). Luckily for Windows users, who couldn’t use PwnageTool, Redsn0w is available for both Windows and Mac OS X users. However, iPhone Dev Team notes that there are some issues using redsn0w with OS X PPC and they suggest you use an Intel Mac till these issues are resolved.

  1. GOLDEN RULE: If you are using a 3G iPhone with yellowsn0w and rely on yellowsn0w to obtain cellular service, then you should NOT use redsn0w right now. Ultrasn0w (the 3G carrier unlock) is not included with this release and therefore your baseband will be locked and unable to use an operator other than the official one it was bought for. UltraSn0w will be released via APT (cydia and icy) soon. If you have an original iPhone (1st generation) then 3.0 carrier unlock works with this redsn0w release.
  2. Yellowsn0w in its current form will NOT work with the baseband version that is present in the 3.0 update, you will need Ultrasn0w, which will be released sometime soon, Ultrasn0w will work with all iPhone 3G models (but not 3GS), even ones that were previously unlockable, Ultrasn0w (when available) will be released via APT (this means you will be able to get it via Cydia or Icy).
  3. Please read all parts of this post before downloading and using these tools.
  4. Read items 1, 2 and 3 again and again.
  5. This app is suitable for the recent 3.0 release
  6. redsn0w will NOT work for the iPhone 3GS.
  7. redsn0w WILL work for Original iPhone (1st Generation), Original iPod touch, iPod touch 2G and the iPhone 3G (not the iPhone 3GS).

Redsn0w is easy to use, simply upgrade the device in iTunes to firmware version 3.0 and run redsn0w to activate and jailbreak the device (and if you are using an original iPhone 2G, it will unlock it too!)

*Note*: there are some issues using redsn0w with OS X PPC, please use an Intel Mac while the iPhone Dev Team fixes these issues

iPhone Dev Team have released a redsn0w release which they will be provided no support for. — For those who are experienced with Terminal on Mac can use this with ease but for those who aren’t, well, you may have some trouble. Redsn0w lite is command-line only; No GUI (if you didn’t figure it out by now) and it’s a tethered process.

THIS IS A ***** TETHERED ***** JAILBREAK
IF YOU DON’T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THAT MEANS, DON’T USE THIS!

There are many ways to do this. Here’s one way that will probably
work for you. If it doesn’t, please don’t come to use for support.
We’re working on an untethered version.

This is for Mac only. But you should be able to find (or work out
on your own) how to do it on Windows or Linux too.

Instructions:

Download via iPhone Downloads section
Redsnow Lite Mac OS X Download

Remember, Use at your own risk!

Thanks for the tip, Corey!

Well, It appears what we told you a few days ago was real. Redsn0w is in fact a iPod Touch 2G jailbreak! Ah, yeah! Finally! After months and months of waiting for an iPod Touch 2G jailbreak it’s finally here. Well, technically it’s done but you need to be tethered to a computer to “jailbreak” everything the iPod Touch 2G boots which makes it impractical for most people. But, the iPod Touch 2G jailbreak is completely doable. The iPhone Dev Team just need to remove the need for you to patch the iPod Touch via a computer everytime you boot the iPod.

So there you go. iPod Touch 2G jailbroken. Stay Tuned for more on redsn0w later on!

This is iPhone-Hacks but since the iPod Touch and the iPhone are so closely related I thought some of our readers may like this. iPhone Dev Team gave some subtle hints to what may be an iPod Touch second generation jailbreak! Based on many comments on our posts, some of our readers are desperate for an iPod Touch jailbreak. As always, iPhone Dev Team comes to the rescue!

From iPhone Dev Team’s “Thermonuclear pop!” blog post:

  • Well it isn’t a British Thermonuclear Device.
  • It isn’t an episode from “The Twilight Zone”
  • And it certainly isn’t iPhone 3G related (right now)
  • There is one other device…
  • It fits in your pocket..
  • What can it be?

So, It isn’t iPhone 3G related at the moment. So we know it can’t be that right now. And the only other device that the iPhone Dev Team focuses on is the iPod Touch. The iPod Touch just like the iPhone fits nicely into your pockets. So, what can it be? It’s gotta be the iPod Touch right? Let us know what you think in the comments!
